It is very sad indeed that you would ignore a possibly important message just because you don't like the messenger. But...I've been through all of this before with you people. Some things should be taken at face value, to evaluated on its own merit, not from where it came. Bleh! I'm talking to the hand.
Allowing secure, uninhibited communications amongst individuals is a grave threat to national, and more importantly, corporate security. We must put procedures in place to register those who wish to apply for the privilege of uploading anything other than their credit card number.
We go to Africa, kidnap a bunch of folks, bring then to the new world, and have them build it. Well, that's the way it used to be done. Now we can make machines that make bigger machines...and so on. It's all there for the taking. Why do you deny our abilities? There are no limits. We have a whole universe at our disposal. If you don't want to leave the swamp, that's fine. But let's not deny that it can be done.
...it is horrible to have our beliefs destroyed by reality...
Then we shall deny reality, and Hollywood came to be. Actually the hardest reality we have yet to accept is that we are not quite human. We have the arrogance to think we are in control when it's our surroundings that control us.
Let's not blame terrorist for US and EU citizens being fools.
The herding instinct is extremely powerful(and so are the bonds to the "leader"(?),can't think of the word), and nobody wants to be caught on the perimeter, face to face with an unknown "predator". We have not diverted from nature's path. Everything you describe is within normal parameters. Except for our apparently slow advancement, which under the present circumstances will proceed on an evolutionary time scale, and by all indications, seems to be right on schedule...I guess. How would I know?
We use "blue" to describe the color of the sky. Your perception of blue may be entirely different from mine, but we'll use the word blue. But I get your point.
The food is anywhere we want to deliver it. Droughts should have no effect on humans. Animals don't have the luxury of a worldwide transportation system that can deliver anything anywhere overnight guaranteed. Of course they don't a state bureaucracy to hold up the shipment for six months either. In the case of humans, ALL shortages of ALL kinds is caused by greed. Ok, I'll grant that incompetence plays a large part. The point is that we can mitigate virtually all natural "disasters" if we were ever to become so motivated.
The idea of the plumage is to attract a mate. The most outlandish(to us) wins the prize, to a point. The balance is that the plumage becomes so heavy that the animal can't escape its predators. Actually it is more of a matter of the individual bird as opposed to the species in general. No, really it's a matter of both. More reproduction means less likely hood of extinction. It's all one big thing.
It's your study of economics(specifically 19th Century, it's still our current MO) that clouds your vision. And has caused you to misunderstand what I'm saying, to the point of getting it completely wrong. I'm not talking about avoiding industrialization and going "back to nature". I'm telling you that we are motivated by the same forces that motivate everything. You've missed the point completely. And "spitting"(if that's what you were saying) has two Ts. And furthermore, I don't drink coffee. I get my buzz from sugar and chocolate, and herbs that don't require your huge infrastructure to cultivate and consume. So you can keep your French press. And furthermore,
...if people didn't buy "useless" things like HDTVs, iPOds, cars and others you'll probably would not have...
I already saw that nonsense elsewhere in the thread. And it convinces me of nothing. Toys do not progress make. And I don't measure progress in yearly model updates or volumes of currency changing hands. I had plenty of good jobs before any of your "new" gadgets came out, and I sure don't need them to stay alive now. As a matter of fact they have eliminated some of the jobs I used to do. Which is fine because they do it better with less effort. This is what I want, for the machines to do all the work. It will make mincemeat of that old economic system and silly theories you all cling to out of fear of change.
What's trollish about that? Hasn't this been known since the 70s? It's like saying hypoxia causes diminished brain function. DNA rules. It should be as obvious as the color of the sky.
Another thing not being discussed these days are power recovery turbines, "Turbo-compound" for those of you who remember the Connies. By the way, that water injection extended into the jet age by increasing the mass, thus the thrust, shooting out the back end, and it's also a good way to keep the cylinders clean during operation of your regular internal combustion engines. The stuff in the article is little more than fluff with lots of new patents that somebody's trying to sell. I'm not impressed.
Why on earth do Peacocks have such rediculous plumage? Is doesn't improve their ability to survive...
The hell it doesn't! That precisely what it's for. The guy with the most bling gets the chicks. And that's how they decide who's "worthy". That's how nature works, and that's what life is all about...getting laid and reproducing. Every single thing we do is for that explicit purpose. And that would include all the plumage and war trophies, and for that matter, that's what capitalism is all about. It is, and we are nature in its purest form.
Get rid of manufacturing jobs and we'll all be working the fields, just like ancient Sumeria. There wil be no doctors because they be too busy growing their own food.
All the manufacturing and agricultural work is supposed to be done by machines. We have the knowledge to live this way, but the subjugation of other humans seems to be more profitable, and natural for the moment. Contrary to what most of you might think, we really are not in control. We are still motivated by the most basic of instincts.
Yes, and the Christians' goal is to convert the heathens to "save" them from eternal damnation. "Onward Christian soldiers, marching as to war..." Worldwide gangbangers in a turf war. "Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right, here I am..." caught in the crossfire.
Don't try to offer a "rational" explanation, because there isn't any. People do what they can get away with. It's perfectly natural, but it's not rational. It implies something a little less than human, and that's something we haven't to come to terms with yet.
That's precisely the truth. Words are NOT deeds. We shouldn't confuse the two. My clumsy attempts to spell that out gets me slapped down every time. I'm glad somebody might be able to get the word out. And we should never condemn the speaker for the deficiencies of the listener even now. Start holding the listener responsible, and they'll start acting responsible, but they won't until then. Shooting the messenger is always the easy way out, but it is very effective.
But even there the hottest accessories are EEPROM burners...
Things like that are actually great for performance tuning. One thing about all these new electronic engines is that they start no matter how cold. And EPROM burners provide the precision we dreamed of in the 60s and 70s. Having that kind of control over spark and mixture was virtually impossible back then. The racers absolutely depend on that. I will grant however, that keeping all the sensors and whatnot in good working order is a bit more expensive(and can be deadly if you're stuck in the desert), than simply whacking the carbonmaker with a screwdriver handle to loosen the floats and be on your way.
Statistics don't mean a damn thing if you're one of those "insignificants" who get sick.

The herd instinct, I think may be part of the homosapien-sapien (HSS) species.
:-)
...it is horrible to have our beliefs destroyed by reality...
Or birds, or fish, or hoofed animals. For us, it's follow the leader through the red light
After I posted, I realized that this
Together with this
"Reality is self-induced hallucination." (%~o)
is pure genius. Very cool.

Thank God...
Which one?

The food is not there after a drought.

I suppose they would be...if you're interested in the obvious.

...how can we bring it back?
With the space shuttle?
Would it have made the headline if it were Nabisco?
I don't know. I accept all cookies. So I guess I have an alternative.
..."what is coming down the pipe that they are trying to avoid?"...
It's just business

Yes, well, they certainly have crossed into a brave new world.
That's precisely the truth. Words are NOT deeds. We shouldn't confuse the two. My clumsy attempts to spell that out gets me slapped down every time. brings mind control to games
Sounds scary, doesn't it?
Let's do this reverse. The computer working the brain. We'll all turn into MS Bob. But at least with this I can learn perl in my sleep.
