No, there are plenty of choices that are available. Our problem is that we only accept the choices that are presented, in bite sized portions, with pretty colors and shiny objects, or magic beads as the case may be. But I will add this, if any of those available choices should present any real danger at all to the way things are, then there will be no election. What you are watching here is a beautifully choreographed soap opera, and we simply suck it up. We have the power. Will we use it? Doesn't look very likely. Things are too good for most of us. Change is very disruptive, especially in a world where most people are very resistant. We have made our choice, and we choose "stability" and convenience.
They outright lied.* They never intended to pose any serious challenge to the status quo on any issue. Many of us already knew and tried to warn you for a very long time. When are you going to begin to accept the truth?? You are fools to think that either side of the party is going to give up any power at all. And I would hope by now that you realize these people are ALL crooks and differences amongst any of them is less than insignificant."11% approval rating" Hmmpf! Tell it to my truthiness detector. Come election time we will see a 90-95% approval rating, as always. "Vote out the incumbents". Yeah, replace one lizard with another. That'll fix it. This is like watching the steam roller scene in Austin Powers. A slow moving disaster and everybody just stares, screaming, "NOOooooo!"
Congress to America: YHBT HAAA hahahahaaa!
*to the person who put that in his journal many mounts ago, thanks.
...in the 80's, it was socially acceptable to have a drink during lunch.
Believe me, the three martini lunch goes way back before the 80s. Why, there was a time not too long ago you could light up a cigarette at the table. If you want to know what causes all the stress, it's the smoking prohibitions, and now the addiction is being fed by soda pop and coffee with all their sugar and caffeine. No wonder everybody's bouncing off the walls. Somebody needs to invent a good tasting nicotine drink. Personally, I think an LSD dispenser in the lunchroom would do wonders.
Way over my head... You're talking to a guy who only knows how to ask, where's my beer, where's the bathroom, and where's dinner. *the* or *a*...wouldn't know the difference. The (a) community means squat when some guy who has his "finger on the button" or in this case a pair or wire cutters can cut them off in one way or another. No matter how you look at it, the *community* with the biggest gun wins. Usenet is not backed up with nuclear weapons...nor does it have an alternative to the corporate wire. When ATT or Comcast kill your service, you won't be sharing anything, and your darknet will be "no-net". As much as I'm on the side of what's right, it all still sounds like a shitzu growling at a german shepherd.
Kids, and their "high technology"... You're going to spend all that money just to hook up your turntable to "linein"? Try mic in if you don't want to buy a pre-amp. Might be a bit tinny though.
Greed is the prime motivator of your economy that you so valiantly defend above life itself. It is nature in the raw. Your attempts to control it only pervert it. Waiting in line at the DMV, bank, post office, etc and jammed traffic on the freeway are much bigger drains on productivity. Why is no-one calling for the imprisonment of bureaucrats and tailgaters?
Hmmph, such a one sided view. Somebody else will always step in to fill the demand. And prohibitions only serve to increase the demand and the profits. I'm more inclined to nail the buyers. And I would advise network designers to "strengthen the cockpit door" so to speak. The wrong headed overreaction by ISPs and hosting companies is causing all sorts of headaches. They should block access from those who buy from spammers.
When is someone going to make a forum for discussing what should be? There's a real challenge for the wiki... creating tools for collaborating on a common view of the future rather than the past.
...the world is suddenly going to hell in a handcart
Don't know what country you're from, but in the US we travel in a handbasket, and on very well paved roads, I might add.
As for democracy, there's no saying that majority rule is such a good thing. It should be clear by now that the majority can be wrong. It's more akin to fascism by committee than anything. Merely less efficient, not less fascist. And there's very little hope when 99 percent of the people are only looking after their personal interests, with each trying to vote themselves a little bit bigger piece of the pie while remaining blissfully unaware of what's happening on the other end of America's "big stick". The wiki thing can't hurt.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. (void where prohibited by law)
That's right, it's a trap. Someone might think they're developing something anybody can use and modify, etc. Only to find out all that valuable work has been locked up in Microsoft's IP portfolio, and nobody will be able to use it, except of course Microsoft.
Oops. Looks like I nicked an astroturfer. Why don't you comment instead? What are ya? Chicken? In case you didn't notice, DRM, along with activation are very much ON topic in this discussion. Go back to school. See you in metamod!
If he wasn't aware of the activation requirement before he bought the software then I'd empathize, but he was so I don't.
I completely agree. That's why I threw a link to that guy's comment in there. But, your first comment that I replied to sounded like a TV commercial. Just having a bit of fun.
It's not about activation per se. It's about the consumer having a conscious, direct influence on the market. The activation thing is a personal crusade of mine and several others. And there was a bit of resistance to XP in the beginning because of activation. Too bad it collapsed so quickly. We have the power to put a quick end to DRM if we simply don't buy it. Alas, it's just not a big issue as long as it's so easy to crack.

I just want to know who the dumbass is who seeded the torrent of the album.
Maybe the band did. It would have been a good move to get the load off their site.
Posting from work?

Been to Burma lately?

Yeah, daddy-o. Kind of a beatnik wiki

Let's keep on topic and focus on Canada for once, ok?
Sooo... How's the weather?
Where we have the all inclusive 1st Amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances. (void where prohibited by law)

Well, beyond those and Antarctica (Imagine... a whole continent without a Walmart!), much of the southern hemisphere is still under water.
That's right, it's a trap. Someone might think they're developing something anybody can use and modify, etc. Only to find out all that valuable work has been locked up in Microsoft's IP portfolio, and nobody will be able to use it, except of course Microsoft.
Speaking as a doctor...
Ehh, what's up, doc?
...fill the jails with innocent people?
...
Yes
It still won't get them what they want
Filling the jails IS what they want. It's big business, and getting bigger.
Everybody is for sale. Just name the price.
Do they moonlight at the local meat packing warehouse?
Where's the fucking news?
Made ya look...
100% Offtopic

Now I can install even slower and more bloated software. Hard drives are the cassette tapes of the new millennium.
If he wasn't aware of the activation requirement before he bought the software then I'd empathize, but he was so I don't.
