    If you have have property that you want protected, then you should PAY for that protection after the standard protection period has expired.

    Of course. If IP holders want exclusivity they should pay a property tax. Based on a value assessed the same way the it's done on "real" property. Seems only fair. And they should have to deal with all the different rates applied in each locality the product is being protected. Just might make the game a bit more interesting. It doesn't seem right that I pay a tax on my house just for possessing it and these people are getting off scot free. Eh, the power of money. Must be nice.

    Yes, I am very simple. I thrive on simplicity. More than those who needlessly complicate things to appear as some sort of mystic. So...like...do you post anonymously so you can moderate in the same discussion? I just saw an indication that might be the case. Please note I fully support anonymous posting. Sometimes the motivation for doing so piques my interest, that's all. That's the reason for this second reply.

    It's merely an attempt to tranquilize the angry mobs, of which I'm a proud member, who want to see the abolishment of patents and copyright. They(IBM) are very afraid that their vast portfolio would turn into a useful pile of paper merely taking up space. Microsoft doesn't seem so worried about it.

    If you mean the democrats, I don't consider them the opposition, though it was probably a democrat who wrote that. Real opposition will go against all facets of the ruling party. They won't single any one part out from the rest. This only damages the cause, which could be its intent.

    Yup, sometimes it's nice to believe your government is sneaky rather than stupid.

    It's not a big stretch to believe the "stupidity" thing could be an act presented by the media. Some things are just too stupid as to not be intentional. Couldn't tell ya. The view's not so good way up here in the bleachers.

    While the actions of the current administration are DECREASING NATIONAL SECURITY.

    Yeah well, they're pocketing the change. And I don't believe they call their form of robbery "national security" when the cameras are turned off. I think they phrase it as , "Hehehe... suckers".

    Well, I would have to say that the truth starts with us. Some base it on belief. Some will base it on known facts. Obviously, I have insufficient data to decide what's true here. So I have to deduce it from past performance. But, like in the stock market or the race track, it doesn't always work out that way. But I'm still willing to stake odds. Keeps me interested in the game. 5:1 they were fake.

    Nature supplies plenty of that all year long. Now if you had said "cooking"...well...let's eat! By far man's greatest invention ever.

    I still enjoy movies a lot. I just became much more critical of technical issues. It's a bit of a distraction from the story. Funny thing about Titanic. I saw A Night to Remember a few months ago, and I thought most of the effects were every bit as good as in the "new" one. The acting certainly was. I came to the conclusion that color and "talkies" are the only real innovations experienced by the industry. From the point of view of the audience anyway. In all these new movies with "big sound" one of the most annoying things is the loud soundtrack along with barely audible dialog. First I'm deafened by the music and then can't hear what's being said. Damn theaters is like being trapped inside a boom box.

    Back on topic, kinda:
    I don't have a problem with those who choose to remain ignorant, as long as, and this is important, they mind their own business. It's when they start to meddle in the affairs of others that I'll put a boot up their arse.
