Heh, in the states, they don't even bother with a new banner. It just bounces back and forth between the democrats and the republicans. A very cozy relationship, I'm sure. What's weird is the cabinet positions constantly filled with the same people over the last 40 years, no matter which party is in front of the camera reading their little scripts. I think those people are more dangerous. All part of that relationship, I suppose. Well, not a helluva lot that can be done as long as 99% are going continue ignoring the signs and keep believing the false promises.

Just make sure they cut you as much slack as you do for them. But I'm going to say that these politicians are an accurate reflection of the type of people that vote for them, all looking for a quick fortune. The same people that buy from spammers(the same types who used to respond to junk mail) are the ones having the most influence over the system. That makes them easy to exploit. I couldn't possibly offer any solution when the average voter doesn't see past their own nose and simply moves along with the herd. These politicians act like they do quite simply because it works. It's tried and true. We buy into every trap they throw out over and over. I'm living a word for word repeat of events that occurred over 35 years ago. Only then it was the "other" party, but with many of the same faces. A former president(Eisenhower's "Dan Quayle", and not from the "other" party) said, "When the president does it, it's not illegal." Well, don't we know it! We certainly have living proof of that. This is how things appear they will be for many years to come. This is nature's way. For the present, instinct and conditioned reflex shall rule the day. And all our "reason" and "logic" is being used as nothing more than tools to justify acting like animals. Nothing can change until we become human.

Your "media industry" is a propaganda machine that must control what we hear and see. So these actions are necessary to that end. This has always been the law's intent, and the law is getting stronger, not weaker. Copyrights are getting longer, not shorter. There's no end to that trend anywhere in sight. If they feel the need, pretty soon they'll start a shooting war over this. All over the world the cops are waving their guns around and taking people away. The need for absolute control is that critical. It's not just an economic issue. The government is behind this as much as anybody. These laws provide a means of censorship while at the same time allowing plausible deniability. Cool trick that never fails no matter how many times it's done.

If you want to play the guitar, or any other instrument(including your voice), I'm sure the industry will offer up a player's license at a reasonable price so only authorized people can purchase use the instrument. And most people won't care. They're expecting a tax cut from the same politicians, who will be re-elected over and over. This issue will not endanger any of that. There was a time in the USA when it was illegal to teach slaves to read, so it's not like this is really a "new" phenomenon or anything.

...if we are going to follow your logic to its conclusion (that information has no intrinsic value)...

Of course it doesn't. The whole concept of "value" is solely within a man's conscience. It does not exist in nature.

We are looking at a prime case of, "Mommy, he's cheating!". The guy who "owns" the game should be the sole arbitrator. If we are going to insist on mixing fantasy and reality like this, then we are just giving credence to those who want to see the violent and pornographic ones taken off the self. Plus they should be subject to all the other rules we apply to real products like food and transportation and finance, etc.

Next time you vote, vote against anyone currently holding office. Keep your party affiliations, if you must, just make sure the old blood is booted out the door.

No. The problem isn't the individual. It's the party that holds the power. This is why term limits, or "no re-election" don't work. If you want to fix this, you must vote the party out of office. You must elect a party that holds no power at the present, using write-ins if you have to. If the old party stays in power you will get nowhere. I've seen plenty of different individuals hold office with little or no real change over the years. The decline goes on, and in fact accelerated since 1980. Vote the party out and help to take away their power. Of course I expect that to happen just as soon as the temperature in Hell drops a few more degrees. Which goes to show that the REAL problem is sheepish voters who will believe anybody who promises to put an extra penny in their pockets.
