No kidding. As the 30(b) 6 deponent for a patent toll lawsuit, I can tell you that it is a high risk, awful place to be. I will quit and move to a different country if I am ever in line for that bullshit.
Are you a finance person though? I am not, but I work closely with a few outstanding financial analysts, and I am astounded at how they wring the shit out of data with Excel.
Yes, Libre Office calc is fine for what I do, but I am a toddler compared to some of the financial analysts I work with, and they will not be likely to change unless there is a significant improvement over what Excel does (not mere parity will be enough for them).
I wonder what T would blame the likely recession on? Further, I hope it's NOT a deep recession, because the coming tax cuts are further draining away our ability to have a "rainy day" stimulus. They ignored the boy-scout motto: Be Prepared.
And, from what I have read, Uber is burning their VC rounds to subsidize the rides to the tune of about 50% of the total cost. If they are forced to charge what the ride costs, they will not be able to be as inexpensive compared to the taxi's today.
The challenge to just copying FB is that they have nearly 2B active users. That provides a lot of momentum, and a huge barrier to entry for even the best funded competitors. Google had the best chance with Google+ and they couldn't pull it off. I still am surprised when G+ sends me a notification. Is it still alive? Sheesh.
Ditto here. I have been a manager, and I was one of those who took on the task of shielding my team from the bullshit, and managing the politics.
I hated it, and it nearly killed me (I have the heart attack and the stent + brutal daily medications to remind me of how shitty that life was.) Now, I am an individual contributor (a contractor actually), and my current boss does an AMAZING job of insulating me from the bullshit. I am very grateful.
This isn't true, at least in general. I find that programs are the same price whether I buy them directly from the vendor, or via the App store. I often prefer to buy from the vendor, but it is never because it is cheaper.
I recall at one place, teaching our principal software engineer about trigonometry, and transcendental functions. He could use the library functions, but he didn't understand how they applied to a problem we were having - instabilities in an x/y/theta stage control. Apparently he never learned them in his Russian "university" degree that he claimed he had. (He was a pretty good coder, but he really had no foundation in maths at all)
Honda dealers in Tucson Arizona were like this too. Then I moved to California and, well, let's say that the dealers were rip-off artists. It varies by state, but yeah, some are pretty competitive.
Ans: the high, hard one
Fuck, and me without mod points...

*dead* Especially the bit about open source OCR.
Fuck that turd in his ear.
... upon his turban and predicts:

Duh, he's gonna blame it on Obama.
Shit, and me without mod points. This. So much this.
I can attest that this laptop has the worst keyboard on a laptop I can recall. And that is saying something.
But, Hillary. And Benghazi...
Whoa, that's a Bingo!

... those fuckers would steal this idea in a heartbeat.

Ah, a fellow Atarian. I still keep a functional 130XE around (damn 800's cost too much).

Apparently, I had to look into the forum posts that the FA referenced, and FMA instructions are Fused Multiply Add, whatever the fuck that is.
Just what I was going to say. Well DUH...
Have you ever seen/used Oracle ERP? SAP is wonderful compared to Oracle.
