i do find it offensive when people attack MS without seeing the big picture. On Fark i defend artists i don't like when people attack them without objectivity. MS is easy target. Big, clumsy and slow moving. But it's flaw is its success (ubiquity). The main flaw i find in Linux is the opposite. It's small because it's small. Win7 has to run on thousands of combinations of HDs, MoBos, CPUs and RAM, and then run thousands upon thousands of programs. It will have run on a billion machines (give or take). It was built on a finite budget by a finite team trying to conform to something close to schedule. It will be attacked by perhaps tens of thousands of crackers with tons of spare time and motivation. It will be used by mostly non-IT people who just want to write an essay, send an email, fap to some pr0n and play a video game. They don't WANT to know how to configure IP chains or firewalls or know more than one password or to have a password of more than 6 characters, or have to enter the admin pw every time they change a setting. They want to click the blue E and go.
Given enough eyes all security is weak. When Linux and OSX become worthwhile targets the holes will be found.
Here's what should happen:
Make consoles do what computers offer now, but be dumb, static and restrictive. PCs should be for power gamers and developer types. Ma and Pa and Timmy don't need the flexibility of a full OS. Take it another step and build the console into the TV. Shit, i've just invented the iMacStation.
Charge for a Client or a Subscription, NEVER BOTH, and not for anything else. One or the other. The occasional expansion is OK.
i don't play any games that allow player trade or have currency. When i have, i found it to a be dick in the eye when someone would buy what i spent hours earning. i quit WoW the day i had my credit card in hand about to buy gold.
Howabout this, let's allow football teams to field as many players as they can afford. The teams that try to play honestly will find themselves outnumbered 3 to 1 or worse.

A period is a more solid division than a comma. It makes more sense to use the stronger punctuation as the mark between whole and fraction.

i'm taking a game programming class at GWU. It's meant to be for non-programmers but i (a non-programmer) am struggling with XNA. In Game Maker i can DO stuff. i can even be creative in it. With XNA, i'm looking at gibberish. i have no idea what e does, or what args are. But i do know that the jump icon makes the lil guy move.
Programming for me is much like trying to demolish a brick wall with my head. i could do it, but the time and pain involved just isn't worth it.
Give me a programmer, a graphic artist and a 3-D modeler and i will give you an awesome game. i've got the story, the game play, the look and feel and all that other stuff. But i guess everyone else does too.
