Erm. If the kids had only dolls to play with, they'll play with dolls. Give them only cars and guns to play with they'll play with those. That's cultural.
In our world, we foist toys upon our children.
When i was a kid the cabbage patch preeme doll fad was at the height of popularity. Many of the kids around me had them, even boys. When i expressed interest, my dad hit the roof. My parents screamed at each other for hours. i went back to my GI Joes, Transformers and Legos.
No. All that stuff is cultural. We copy what we see. We see men racing cars and women cradling babies. If you set up a closed environment where gender roles were reversed, the kids would pick up that. Boys might still be more inclined to do risky stupid things and to be a bit more aggressive. But if we responded to that the way we would to girls with those behavior (get out of that tree, you'll ruin your pretty dress), that behavior would change.
Piracy is ship to ship armed robbery. Unless this company is boarding a ship full of software with cutlasses drawn... it isn't piracy. Calling infringement piracy makes it seem worse than it is and makes light of what is happening off the coast of Africa.
Is my flash and javascript blocker making pages faster for me then? If i go to a busy site and have all those ad sites blocked... is my browser still pulling all that crap? Or is it ignoring it, making the page proper load faster?
As Dave said, it might be something like the Bar is for lawyers, or like CompTIA. You could still (try to) do the work, just without the credentials and protected title.
Instead of bitching about how bad news is (which is obvious and easy), let's think of ways to fix it (more difficult and interesting). _________
Is it possible for news to be objective AND a product?
i've been wondering if reporters should be part of some non-profit system. To have a press pass you have to pass some kind of ethics class and receive a license. If you violate the standards, they revoke your press pass. No press pass = no freedom of the press for you. The White House and companies can exclude you from press conferences on that basis if they like. If you try to do investigative journalism w/o a pass, the people you spied upon can sue you. Maybe celebrities won't let you interview them if you don't have the pass.
Perhaps you can't call yourself a reporter (or some other title) unless you have your pass.
A for profit company can hire you, but you are still accountable to the board. Your employer might not care if you have a press pass, but the people you talk to might, as might viewers. CNN might fire someone who lost their pass, or has cost them viewership.
Non-profit news organizations can sell articles to for-profit venues. Or maybe they can charge all they want, but otherwise have to conform to the rule for being a non-profit.
It doesn't need to be in every game (any more than the game NEEDS to exist in the first place), but there's no reason to NOT build in the option for people who want it. It could turn a $50 40 hour game into a $50, 100 hour game. NWN's extensibility and co-op features gave it huge re-playability. i spent more time playing mods for NWN than i did with the original content.
They could offer it and you could ignore it. Then people who *have* friends could play this game together.
Bloat... or added features working within ever expanding RAM and HD space?
i'm not saying that there is no bloat in FF. But rather, questioning whether we are calling it bloated because it is bigger. Bigger doesn't not mean bloated. An F-22 is much bigger than a P-51, but that's not bloat. It's improvement and dealing with modern options. The amount of RAM available in a 09 machine vs. an 04 is quite different. Processor speeds and HD space grew faster yet. The Wright Flyer didn't need radar. Should we remove radars from modern planes? Maybe the sky is a bit more crowded now than it was in those days. Things change. Expectations change. Onions untie and fall off our belts.
It's the nature of products to gain features, esp, software and electronics. Cars don't "need" stereos or air condition to do their jobs. Consoles are becoming more like computers. Websites are becoming more like software. Computers are running other computers. Computers are working like there are one big computer.
Did you know that Mozilla is making this product for people other than you?
Is FF bloated w/o any plug-ins or extensions?
How can something sound too good, or even be too good? "Damn, I can't eat anymore more of this pizza. It's too good!" "Turn the radio off! That song is just too awesome."
Yes, you're right. Which means that if i build a robot that you buy and send to kill someone, *i'm* guilty of murder. Because i'm controlling it by having programmed it a year ago.

History Nerd Core. Hehe. Well done!
Wasn't there a South Park episode about this very thing?

If you are speaking Latin, the plural of campus is campi. If you are speaking English, it's campuses.

Both are valid. Campuses is standard, campi is not.
*shrugs*
The grappling rules in 3rd Edition are bitch.
Word change isn't the issue.
i'm working on it!
Don't play their game.

Cue the descriptivists....
Om nom nom nom nom nom nom nom!

What's your plan?
i was thinking something more like a union or associate. Like CompTIA, maybe.

But i'd have to live in Texass to use it. i'd rather freeze!
What is this question asking? It doesn't parse as an answerable question.
Why are so 'many' of the 'words' in 'quotes'?
Only gov'ts can censor. This is concealing.

The opposite of a buff is a nerf.
When will this go intergalactic?
Thanks, i've added those to my Del.ico.us for later investigation. :)
1) Are there FOSS alternatives to Flash and/or Shockwave?
2) Why(not)?
3) If there was, would it help reduce problems like this?
Please don't mod me as trolling for asking questions!
