Ugh... I dont even want to imagine... one gives free net access, one free email, both have an optional pay service that no one uses... I can see a failed IPO and a Chapter 11 in the near future...

Liquid N2 is very cheap (a gallon of LN2 is cheaper than a gallon of milk in most places). Also, if you keep it presurized, then you don't have to worry about keeping it cold since it can't expand.
Actually, according to Bartleby, the quote is "They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
"I've got this crazy hair-brained idea of having about six of these things running in one big Linux box to do some really cool terminal stuff" But in the website he links to, it explicitly says, "Note: SunPCi II software drivers currently support a maximum of one card in any Sun workstation." So that wont work. Sounds like a cool idea though (although, I'd run Windows 2000 to play games...)
bring us further towards photorealism, and more importantly extremely reliable 3D maps
Ok, my only question... have they used it for porn yet? (they always seem to use technology first;p)
Other posts you are likely to see: 1. I want a 3D map of Natalie Portman! 2. Can they make a beowulf of these? 3. Im gonna pour hot grits on the robot!
From the article:...the CPU is now spec'd at 750MHz, and will use a GeForce3...
Gee, can anyone think of an upcoming console that has a 733MHz processor and a GeForce3? Bingo! The XBox. Yes, folks, I'm afraid its another MHz war... (and it could be a good one, because appearently they havent decided if they are going to go with AMD or Intel, but they do mention that they want a fast FSB, so it will probably be AMD:))
What, exactally, is so wrong with a closed-source binary video driver? Thats how nvidia distributes their drivers, and everybody loves them. Is it a compatability issue with different Linux kernels? (eek, that sounded a little flamish, not intended to be). Im a long time Windows user, and I'm wondering what the Linux crowd is thinking.
Well, NBCi is being odd, so heres another link: http://members.nbci.com/mduell52/chatlog.zip.html Its still the same 3MB zip file, with a new extension...
(Remember, choose Save as... [I pity the fool who tries to open it with IE])
10.8TB = 1064 DVD's (presuming 10.4GB per DVD) = 17,400 CD's (presuming 650MB per CD) = 7,864,320 floppies (presuming 1.44MB per floppy) = 371,085,174,374 of those new MOT 256bit MRAM chips.
Even presuming that they can double the density every 9 months, they will be making 512kB chips in 2004, their estimated release date. Figure 16 chips per stick and you have 8MB. No where near enough for instant-on PCs (I mean full on OS's with GUIs, not LoaF or PBSD).
My dad owns his own business (practice, actually) and he recently hired a comptuer consultant. From day one I knew that this guy wasnt any good. He replaced the server UPS with a model 3 times as big, even though the old one was more than adequate. Also, when my dads 1 year old tape drive died, rather than RMAing it (it had a 2 year warranty), he suggested that my dad should buy a new one (even though my dad had several hundred dollars worth of tapes for the old one). It too the consultant 3 weeks (no backups in the mean time, not a good idea) to find the drive to replace it with. When I inquired as to what was taking so long, he said that IDE tape drives with capacities larger than 4GB (the server HDD is 6GB, but only 2.5GB is used) were "rare and hard to find". Finally he put in an OnStream Echo30, which has 5 times the capacity that my dad needs, and now my dad has to buy all new tapes to replace the ones he purchased a year ago! All in all, its been no fun, and when my dad had the consultant come to our house to install some software, I promptly logged out and said, "Give me the disks, Ill install it myself" due to a previous instance with the consultant installing spyware!
Mark Duell in southern California, looking for a good comptuer consultant
Whats with the obsession of claiming that links are to that evil site (which I wont name). This one even claims that Hemos put in a link (but he didnt). Grr.. the trolls are starting to bother me!
It will help both of them tremendously(sp?). Transmeta brings in their knowledge of VLIW processors and AMD brings in their high MHz (and low Ghz) processors. Both of these factors are needed to beat Intel and (in the not too distant future) Apple. A 2Ghz, 64bit, VLIW CPU would be very pimp.

"my new workstation will be u160 scsi, but we'll be tossing in 3x40G in raid-5 instead of a tape. I'll need 3 disks to fail to lose any data . . ."
No. You will only have to have 2 disks fail to use data. If all three failed, you wouldn't have any data!

Dell sells laptops preloaded with Linux. Loading Windows would be trivial, but im not sure about Solaris. See http://www.dell.com/html/us/segments/bsd/choose_in spn_8000l.htm.

Nah, they both use 230MHz DDR (460MHz effective) SDRAM. But, you are correct, the GeForce better utilizes the bandwidth.

I put up another mirror (with all the logs in one big zip) at http://members.nbci.com/mduell52/chatlog.zip.delet ethis (3.00MB). Of course, you have to delete the deletethis extension, because NBCi doesnt allow zips :(

I presume that B.F. stands for Benjamin Franklin. That quote is from Thomas Jefferson

How about some form of unix (maybe NetBSD) for the TI-89? Its got a MOT 68k running at 8MHz/10MHz (rev a/b), 2MB EEPROM, and 1MB RAM. How about it?

Unlike some other events, the SuperBowl is broadcast live across the US, as well as to some other countries.
