  1. Re:We don't need a spec on Saudi Arabia Constructing World's Tallest Building · · Score: 1

'fast track' construction is fairly common practice. If you have the basic Structrual, MEP and Elevatoring layouts you can get started putting in the foundations and structure at the bottom working your way up you don't necessarily need to know what the exact curtain pattern will be on floor 50 to pour the foundation in the basement. Construction could take 5-10 years, the designers just have to stay ahead of it.

Ink is great and completely under utilized gem in OS X, and I think you could maybe even get away with using it on the track pad without the wacom tablet if you're tight on space and don't want to seem like a total douche bringing a laptop and tablet to take note.. BUT thanks to the fact that you're using a mac, I think what might be more direct and faster even is to be able to type the darn thing? its not that hard to type your special characters: option-b is "" for sumation, option-v is "" for square root. a few parentheses latter and you have a quick enough way to write most things, pi is option-p is "" . hold down option for a while and mash the keyboard to find what you want, or you can launch the 'special characters/unicode' typing window and figure them out that way I might use optino-5 for infinity "" and option-a for alpha "å" you can probobly do a find-replace latter to fix any oddness in what you want to see vs. what you typed.

  4. Re:Isn't this expected? on Mac OS X Intel Kernel Uses DRM · · Score: 1

What you propose makes some sense, to most people, but misses the entire point of what Apple computer has been doing since Steve came back. Apple actively DESIGNS both the hardware AND the software. Design culture is a strange, often essoteric thing but it what makes Apple an appealing company. They wouldn't be a very good software company I would actually say Apple also actively designs its business side of things too: There might be something else going on with the intel switch. Microsoft is pushing some DRM 'trusted comptuer' BS and will have some junk in their new Longhorn that will 'distrust' files made on a computer with no DRM. Apple might be trying to sidestep any cross compatability issues of 'Microsoft Office Files' and even things like Email by including some of this garbage in their computers. Frankly I don't like it and I wish they would lead a charge against DRM rather than helping sneak it in in acceptable doses. But with the iPod out there, they wouldn't dare dismantal DRM. Time to trade that pirate flag in and dust off the ol' Red White and Blue I guess. YEAH Patritoism rulz.

  5. cheap good perscription sunglasses on Experiences with Laser Eye Surgery? · · Score: 1

I made some cheapy prescription sunglasses that are UV protected, I use them for driving and at the beach etc. First I found a cheap pair of sunglasses at the mall ($8) then I dug through my drawer of old glasses for a pair that I probably wouldn't want to wear much, but that had small enough lenses for this to work. then I just took some PC-11 epoxy and carefully glued the prescription lenses to the inside of the sunglasses. obviously each of us makes a decision about how to deal with what we've got. I've chosen not to get the eye surgery, my opthamologist recommended it once actually. I've found that with a little creative effort and some good habits that wearing glasses really isn't a big deal. knowing my luck, getting the eye surgery, would be. I've been wearing glasses since 4rth grade. I like them, I work in a shop and do carpentry on a regular basis, and while not safety approved I have found that glasses stop a bunch of crap from getting in my eyes. Its amazing the difference that subtle cues like glasses can give other people, they immediately presume that I'm smart and have something insightful to say when I do say something. I can't drive without my glasses etc. but I'm trained to take them off when I fall asleep. I've passed out dead drunk (in someone else's neighbor's back room even) and had the foresight to remove my glasses and place them exactly arms reach away from me so that I don't roll over them in the middle of the night and when I reach out to the right in the morning, there they are! I water-ski downhill etc. and a pair of sport goggles with buoyant foam comfort pads allow me to see in those circumstances. I found my Dad's old tinted pair from 1970, which are soooooo very unstylish that they make a nice style statement. and there are always contacts...

If I set Directory Access (located in the Utilities folder) to authenticate against 'local directory' rather than 'Automatic' then I am safe right? If this really is the case, could someone please make this work around explicitly clear so that all the iMac Users of the world can do it (and yes I know they don't have ssh up and running anyways but, just incase...)
