At least the robotic killing machines wouldn't kill simply for fun and amusement which is currently done by human soldiers...
Some might argue that mistakes will be made by machines, killing innocents... Well guess what humans make mistakes also. At least with machines you can keep improving the algorithms, with humans you can only train so much.
They did though it was mostly useless having been designed for 15 year old girls to pilot... The uniforms were also rejected due to the probability of lawsuits...
I think this is more a factor of shitty science journalism.
Look at the whole Diamond Plant topic on Slashdot. I wouldn't say it was "positive". I think most people came out and said, well I guess that really depends on what you consider a diamond, and most would not. Highly compressed carbon perhaps... Likely very unstable. I think the best post I read said something to the effect that if you took a handful of the stuff out of the excessive gravity, and somehow managed to teleport it to our Earth gravity, it would explode quite violently.
In any event I think it is funny it is being compared as a model showing how unfairly people bash climate change. I think I would argue that this sort of thing is exactly why. However the poster made a good comment in the point that no one cares, because the effect on them is effectively nil. "Ha Ha bet my wife would want that!" So of course the response is generally positive. However if the issue made you lose your job, or decrease the quality of your life, then ya, you might care a bit more (being right or not being somewhat irrelevant).
In any case, sounds like the scientist in question is either a douche, or more was said in the actual article I didn't bother to read...:)
There is no news. There is only the truth of the signal. What I see. And, there's the puppet theater the Parliament jesters foist on the somnambulant public.
What is causing all the BS is the flu vaccinations. Typically there is a big chance they do fsck all. Also unless you are really old, young, or sick your chances of dying of the flu are pretty minimal.
While real vaccinations are important, do work, and protect you from stuff which can kill much more easily.
Add to the fact on the order of magnitude of which vaccinations are administered, there will always be a chance of complications or death, even if it only effects a very small percentage of the population as a whole.
I remember when meningitis was going around, my mom couldn't get me vaccinated fast enough!
So I think a lot of the public perception is being caused by these annual flu vaccinations (regardless of wacky autistic science papers). The worst part for me, is that most of these important shots are given when you are child and can't make the decisions yourself, and have to depend on having sane parents...
I know I watched a show that basically was saying that the environment we lived in was so bad back then, that it was the big difference, particularly the water.
In London, everyone just tossed their garbage, piss, and shit in the street, that combined with all the industrial runoff, and animal waste to fester in the river. The river that everyone drank from.
Some study was done with numbers collected from the time, showing that certain areas had far less victims. It was suggested that these areas, which all seemed to be around breweries and the like, were because people that drank beer instead of the water were so much better off, because the beer was all boiled which killed all the bacteria. The stupid peasants of the time not know anything about bacteria or that boiling water kills them...
To that end, I try to drink as much beer as I can. Just to be safe. That way in 100 years from now, no one will be calling me a stupid peasant.
Steam essentially does it right now. Growing in popularity. Will be awhile before it totally takes over, though I am not sure it will totally eliminate physical media.
I suspect more will jump on this band wagon, and we will see more of this in the future.
However considering Windows and MS turn around for new versions (apart from XP, very often) this move makes total sense. It will be a few years yet before that method will really take over. In the interim allowing ISO functionality in Win8 will let them expand now into tablets. In 3 years when Windows 9 comes out, maybe they won't need it as much, and when X Windows (sorry had to) comes out they can get rid of it.
Well I know I plan on backing up all my future data on easily portable and concealable high capacity thumb drives! I'll just have a drawer full of them!
You just wait until the space quakes hit, and all that radiation is released, contaminating space with radiation for years to come.
That said, this is very old news. This type of thing has existed and has been in use for half a century. However these are pretty low powered devices (unless this is supposed to be different), that only produce like 500W of power over a period of 80 years or so. So depending on what you plan on using these for power at these "bases", it is not like they are going to power everything. Perhaps they mean the idea is to use multiple of these, which might make sense for redundancy reasons.
You are enabling distribution. As such you should be destroyed.
An good analogy is drugs. You are not a drug trafficker, you are a petty drug dealer. That said, where there analogy falls apart are the legal repercussions for said actions. Sure the trafficker is in some trouble, but a first time dealer isn't in much trouble.
So you can disagree with the interpretation all you like, but for me the big deal is the actual damages and how disproportionate they are from reality. This is simply due to corporate America meddling. There are larger issues here at play.
Better just say, don't have friends. Also don't have family either.
I don't think most cops are allowed to have a facebook account, let alone a undercover cop. I'm pretty sure police agencies have a few policies about that.
I know a buddy of mine went to RCMP college and he had to get rid of his account.

So bring on our robotic killing overlords...
"designed for slow" just doesn't have that marketing ring to it.
They did though it was mostly useless having been designed for 15 year old girls to pilot... The uniforms were also rejected due to the probability of lawsuits...
Maybe the USA should go back to it's "Republic" roots...
When Rome needed money, just kill off a bunch of the rich elite, and take all their money and land.
For factual accuracy I cite the TV series "ROME".
In modern times, it isn't necessary to actually stab them to death, but it is preferable.
I think this is more a factor of shitty science journalism.

"...and then is torn to pieces by the carbon haters and the carbon lovers without ever hinting at which side of the argument he sits on."
I can't tell if you are talking about Climate Change or Diamond Plants now.... :)
Everything goes somewhere, and I go everywhere.
There is no news. There is only the truth of the signal. What I see. And, there's the puppet theater the Parliament jesters foist on the somnambulant public.
Well to be fair, they just aren't the same thing, and should not be compared (but they are).
Every year there is a new flu bug. Researchers basically make an educated guess as to what will actually show up. Many times it is wrong.
Polio is Polio. Measles is Measles. Meningitis is Meningitis.
Its not Avian Pig Polio HB123...
In other news I want to capture a Leprechaun so I get his pot of gold.
I see this having about an equal chance of happening in my lifetime.
I laugh in the face of danger! AH HA HA HA HA HA!

Burn her!
Don't they have an app for that?
Seriously, someone should do that. I'm sure programing on my iPhone would be pretty painful, but on an iPad it might not be too bad...

For those that don't know, I believe this is from BASH.org.
Its a bit dirty so I won't repost.
However if I could I would mod you up!
Well I know I plan on backing up all my future data on easily portable and concealable high capacity thumb drives! I'll just have a drawer full of them!
The only "numbers" in either article are:
"...which was a 45 kWt thermal nuclear fission reactor that produced 650 watts using a thermoelectric converter..."
So the one in 1965 was a 45kWt, but actually produces 650 watts.
The one on Voyager did 450 watts I believe.
In any event the article is so lacking in details it is hard to take any of it as credible.

I'm surprised he doesn't power the whole thing by himself by all the hot air he produces...
Heh.
Police: Are you classified as human?
Korben Dallas: Negative, I am a meat popsicle.
I have no doubt they have the ability to make a "spacecraft".
Actually getting that in to space, particularly with squishy meat bags on board that don't want to go "pop", is another story.

weirdly enough I just noticed the linguistic root connection of police, policies... and just now likely polis. That's odd of me.
