Your assuming a politician can keep his promises and make this time enough. I think the point made earlier was that they can not be trusted to make this change and leave it alone. In Tennessee where I live we have a sales tax and our politicians know to live off of it and not discuss an income tax again. For us it is not a right or left thing so much as an "All politicians are liars" thing. We have a Democratic Governor and Republican State Congress but they both know to tow the line or they are history. They tried to pass one once and people showed up and threw rocks at the Capitol Building (long before the tea parties of this period even existed). We may have voted for them but no Tennessean is dumb enough to believe a politician when he says this wont hurt much, as they mutter under their breath "this time".
Seems like we are already touting our next would be overlords and saying how much better all of life will be. Meet the new boss same as the old boss...We are far from the first thing that politicians(Democrats, Republicans, Libertatians and Communists) think of when they cast thier votes.
I completely agree with leaving it open. If you are serious about security you secure the machine not some no boundries network. I leave mine open for two reasons. First to be nice and let my neighbors share a connection when thier providor takes a break on them. Second so I can tell the RIAA and MPAA that I have no clue who was downloading through my router, I dont secure it.
My personal favorite for HME is Galleon. It crates all the normal apps with more usefull ones like controlling ToGo from the TIVO. No more must I sit at my computer to start a show copy I just tell the Tivo ToGo App and contacts the box to pull it off. Plus it runs on anything that will run java.

I would disagree with the comment that it is not built for the enterprise. I work for a major telecom company and we use it to track SS7 signaling(Every call made in the US generates 5 events that are logged for traces) . Our vendor has load tested it extensivly. If they believe and I have witnessed it take a mass calling event and log it properly then I would call that reliable. Mass Calling is >=100,000 calls at 5 messages per call. Half a million entries in about an hour and a half should work just fine.
Looks like someone should have planed trunk capacity for/.. I would hate to be their internal telco guy. I bet his ACD is lit up like a christmas tree. Hope he has enough coffee for the page out.

I do agree that some spyware will not install unless you have administrative rights. Others however give a damn less about who you are or what you account you are logged on with. We have our users locked down with GPO's and some have local policies on the machine on top of that. They still seem to catch one every now and then. One of my favorites would happen to be hijack this browser. I cannot tell you how many admins(READ: Secretaries) with no right to even install a printer locally have this program magically appear.

We are working on a plan to automate running it with SMS once a week. From what the lab is telling field support technicians the automation testing is looking pretty good with spybot

Ack...Someone actually like the Battlestar Galactica Miniseries. That was horrific. Throughout the whole series we got to see on real Cylon. If you ask me(Not that you are but you are reading this post.)humans actors imitating "Next Generation" Cylons was lame. I mean was the visual effects budget for that series really that low or did the director blow it on coke. The only good scene was the one where the girl and guy are getting together on the first episode.(Toned down sentence due to my companies politicaly correct storm troopers.) After that I found myself checking out to barf at the plot and effects in oh about.....6 seconds.
