Agreed that monitoring is the way to go. Are there any FOSS/Freeware solutions that do this easily? Setting up squid just to do traffic logging seems like overkill, and Sourceforge doesn't return anything that looks promising.
How does intercepting emails between Germany and Pakistan suspend US citizen rights? Are we applying Constitutional protection to Germans and Pakistanis now?
The issue is that the Administration is spinning this story as justification for their Domestic eavesdropping program. They know that "Joe Middle-America" will not be able to distinguish the difference.
There's no 'probably' about it. Atari learned that lesson very harshly and Nintendo set out to not repeat that mistake.
The two largest and most expensive game blunders that Atari made before the crash were E.T. and Pac-Man. Both of these titles were released by Atari itself! 3rd party shops didn't damn the 2600. It was Atari's utter lack of internal quality control.
Back in 1955, if a kid didn't do as he was supposed to, the kid got in trouble. Today, if a kid doesn't do as he is told, he doesn't get in trouble. In fact many times it gets him a bribe. "Do your homework, and we'll go out for icecream!". So the kid doesn't ever learn to do things that simply *have* to get done. He stays a child for his entire life (at least as far as maturity goes.
With all due respect, your "theory" is a crock of weasel shit not even in the same multiverse as reality. If you were ever to have the misfortune of raising a child with ADD/ADHD, you would soon come groveling back here to beg the forgiveness of every parent that has been through the pure HELL of this disease.
My stepson has had symptoms of ADHD for about five years. A's and B's in school suddenly and inexplicably fell to straight D's and F's: The reason? He wasn't turning in homework... any of it!! So instantly, the hammer fell. No, TV, no video games, no friends, NOTHING, until the behavior changed.
Guess what, Einstein?
It had *no* effect!
We pulled him out of all of his extra-curricular activities that he *loved* doing.
No effect!
We'd try a less strict and more positive 'carrot and stick' approach.
Still, no effect!
We would sit with him as homework was done - micromanaging every aspect of his schoolwork. We would make sure that each assignment was completed and put into a folder so the following morning, all he had to do was hand it to the teacher to get an 'A'... A week later, we'd get a call from his teacher letting us know that none of the work was ever turned in!
By this point, (almost two years into it) he was getting straight F's. Against the risk of being held back, my wife and I dropped $13,000 (THIRTEEN FUCKING THOUSAND DOLLARS - ON A 14 YEAR OLD!!) for a private tutor at a learning center.
And guess what???
No.... Fucking.... Effect!!
Finally, three years after the problems first started, his psychiatrist found a combination of meds that worked. The grades (and his attitude) started to stabilize. But even with that, it is still a struggle every...fucking...day to keep him focused on the job that needs to get done.
So next time you have an idea to spout off another "Theory", shut your mouth and actually learn about the subject you're trying to talk about.
"True" fans as you put it, enjoy the entire series. It's the whiney, "my Boba Fett Underoos are too tight on me" posers that do nothing but bitch and moan about the prequels.
Bolton was a good example. He was only supported by the president and Republicans.
Not true. Bolton only had the support of the President. Bush knew that the Republican controlled congress didn't support Bolton's nomination. That's why he played the "congressional recess appointment" card..
Yes, I did read the article, as well as many of the court transcripts. The "Slutty" costume he wanted her to wear consisted of a wig and some high heels. Now, her family history coupled with her assertion that she didn't intend to pull the trigger was found to be a cause for leniency: the jury found her guilty of Manslaughter and not Murder. Had this been a "justifiable" homicide (e.g. Battered Wife Syndrome), she would have been acquitted!
Bottom line, someone died in the commission of a Felony. The guilty party walks free after five months. That sir, SUCKS!
No, *you* miss the point. A term of his probation was that he use a particular monitoring software should he choose to go online. He accepted this term in lieu of spending an additional 5 months in prison. He can either comply with the order; by using the mandated software, or staying off of the internet for five months. Or he can violate his probation and risk going back to jail.
Probation means you lose certain freedoms. What's so hard to understand about this?
And more to the point, the legallity of the situation was not clear to lawyers, judges, etc that spent their lives in this stuff. I don't see how he can claim special knowlege. But if he can, then he will be aquitted - and the annoyance of the trial is the price he will have paid to help defend the United States.
It was damned clear enough to the head lawyers in Ashcroft's Justice Department. They advised the White House *not* to use this program, based on it being legally indefensible.
Chewbacca is similar. There was nothing in the original to indicate he was ex-military, and he showed no mention of recognising the name 'Yoda.' His appearance didn't do much damage, but it was pointless.
Ehh? Chewbacca never heard the name 'Yoda' in the OT.
C3PO I totally agree with. In Star Wars, he was just another droid, with no real connection to the resistance other than being owned by one of its members. By the end of Return of the Jedi, he was a full-fledged active participant, and friend of the other major characters. It takes something away from the character to make him go through the same transition in the past and then wipe his memory.
R2D2 was slightly different. In Star Wars, he claimed Obi Wan was a former owner of his, and so it would make sense for him to appear with Obi Wan in a prequel. His rôle in the prequel trilogy was far too large, however, unless you accept the argument that the whole six films are really his story.
Lucas has stated for almost two decades that the entire story was seen through the droids' eyes. They are, in effect, the only ones who know the entire story.
The kicker is when CSM's short story gets published -- in a porn rag.
No, it was a pulp fiction magazine. The irony was that CSM - who built his life around distortions and re-writing history, had his own story edited so heavily that he couldn't even recognize it as his own work.
If this were a criminal case, wouldn't one invoke the 5th Amendment? Sorry charley, no keys forthcoming?
IANAL, but I believe that while the 5th Amendment protects you from self-incriminating testimony, it does not protect you from surrendering incriminating physical evidence.

How much you want to bet that they point "Where the Precursors went".
Bottom line, someone died in the commission of a Felony. The guilty party walks free after five months. That sir, SUCKS!
One more word out of you, John Bigbooty!!
They aren't "requiring" him to purchase anything. He can always stay offline for 5 months.

^And yet, for decades, the line "Who the fuck are you? (The Who) has been able to squeak past almost all radio censors.
