I called up Sony about a year ago because mine (day 1 PS2, 4 years old at the time) stopped playing games with a "Disc Read Error." They gave me an address, I sent it in. In about 3 weeks I had a newly fixed PS2 on my doorstep. Maybe your friend should try that.
"Drugs that don't cure people don't make money. Dead people don't use drugs."
Correction, 'Drugs that don't cure people, but rather treat symptoms make LOTS of money. Sick people keep using the drugs that may (or may not) make them feeel better'
"I would like to see this technology implemented in all of my classes."
I've had many classes that use this. It's called Over Head Projector (OHP) and when combined with little transparent pieces of a material known as "plastic" they can do such cool things as you describe.
You probably have some idea of how a LiIon battery should be treated, unlike most people. Here's a great paraphrase that actually came out of a product review I was reading (not for the IPod, another LiIon powered MP3 player):
'The battery life is nothing like rated. I can only get 4 or 5 hours of playback. I've tried draining it completely and recharging it over a dozen times, but nothing seems to work.'
"If I want to distribute an author's book I need to ask permission."
You do not need any kind of permission to distribute a book. I can go to Amazon.com order 100 copies of a textbook for one of my classes, and then go sell it to all the students and there's not a damn thing the Author or Publisher can say or do about it. They authorized the creation of the book, and that's all that they have control over.
Yeah, I figured it was just a mistake. No harm done. The thing is that most LCDs require polarizing filters. These filters make it necessary to have backlights in conditions in which one could easily read a paper book.
*coughdreamcastcough*
I don't see anything broader about the freedom of speech listed there then what americans are granted by the Constitution.

You really overestimate the average person.
"they are smart people"
And, what exactly do you base this assumption on?
Well... maybe because Africa's not a nation...
So, now anyone who mods THEIR OWN CONSOLE is not only a thief, but also a sexual predator???
"these planets have many moons, all of which are terraformed and include artificial gravity"
I'm pretty sure it says nowhere that all the hundreds of moons of this system are terraformed.
"and the web-swinging is easily one of the most entertaining travel modes in any video game I've played. "
He obviously never played Superman for the N64.
You obviously never had a Game Gear.

For some, it's all three of those points you mentioned. ;-)
"then the obvious strategy is to increase the funding so that they can do their job right."
hahahhahaha. Thanks, I needed a laugh like that.
How is 128 going to be better than 256?
Yeah, brilliant. Incorporate so that they can tax you twice and you just loose almost all of that 60% bonus you just got.
Then it's not profit, but rather revenue. Which is not what the GGP said.

that would be GutenbErg.org.
Project Gutenburg over 16,000 titles currently.
Only if the game sux will they discontinue it.
According to the Christian Bible they were too.

Why would you want to backlight a Light Emitting Diode?
