    I called up Sony about a year ago because mine (day 1 PS2, 4 years old at the time) stopped playing games with a "Disc Read Error." They gave me an address, I sent it in. In about 3 weeks I had a newly fixed PS2 on my doorstep. Maybe your friend should try that.

    I've had many classes that use this. It's called Over Head Projector (OHP) and when combined with little transparent pieces of a material known as "plastic" they can do such cool things as you describe.

    You probably have some idea of how a LiIon battery should be treated, unlike most people. Here's a great paraphrase that actually came out of a product review I was reading (not for the IPod, another LiIon powered MP3 player):

    'The battery life is nothing like rated. I can only get 4 or 5 hours of playback. I've tried draining it completely and recharging it over a dozen times, but nothing seems to work.'

    You do not need any kind of permission to distribute a book. I can go to Amazon.com order 100 copies of a textbook for one of my classes, and then go sell it to all the students and there's not a damn thing the Author or Publisher can say or do about it. They authorized the creation of the book, and that's all that they have control over.

    Yeah, I figured it was just a mistake. No harm done. The thing is that most LCDs require polarizing filters. These filters make it necessary to have backlights in conditions in which one could easily read a paper book.
