A great community for new Linux users is Ubuntu. Just ask a question in the n00b section and somebody will be happy to answer. Just remember to do a search first prior to asking, and to read any posts that says "Read this before posting" before posting a question. Even pm'ing someone would be ok.
The industry is not making caskets with built-in LCD monitors.
This has got to be the best idea. Think of it now, "Pimp My Casket" on MTV. Old folks get to pimp out their caskets b4 they die (think of them in wheelchairs towing along respirators and choosing bling to pimp out their casket). They can also put neon lights underneath the casket for that slick JDM look.

I know this is a little offtopic, but if you're using a linux box and can't decide on a IM app, you can always point someone to using http://www3.meebo.com/. This uses ajax so that you can IM online through port 80 (especially useful when any of the IM ports are being blocked at work).
You're right . . . but you forgot one minor detail - the Japanese actually made better cars than Americans did during the 80's, even up till this day. True, many IT jobs are outsourced to India, but how many of the more senior positions such as software architects, designers, and Sr. hackers go to India/China? The fact is, better and more innovative code comes out of the US, while more menial code comes from outsourced jobs. If software engineers don't want to lose their job, get better at it. Also don't expect companies to come gnawin' at your door and offer you a 6-figure job just because you know how to write an XML parser. This ain't the late 90's . . . try looking for a job yourself. There's alot of places like here, here, here, or here.
Its good that FEMA advises against BPL (especially in a technical explanation). If the energy companies get their hands in broadband service . . . uh oh, we may see one of the biggest monopolies in energy.
The Siemens S56 (I personally think) has the best bang/buck. I got mine when it 1st came out for $99, plus a $50 MIR (mail in rebate); it includes a color screen (back lit), bluetooth, games, IrDA, a file manager, polyphonic ringtones, voice/memo recorder (can even record phone conversations), etc. just a whole bunch of goodies. The only drawback I see is that it doesn't have a built in camera like the SE T616, however, it does have a camera attachment you can buy. Also, many have claimed that the battery life sux, but from my personal experience, it can last for a whole week (6 days, recharge on Sun.) while taking calls the whole time. The only time is doesn't last as long (4 - 5 days) is when you take long calls, I mean like 2 hour calls and such. I've been extremely happy with the phone, however.
As an engineering student (any type, ME, EE, CSE, CS, etc.) it sucks to have classes with barely any girls (eye candy) to help get you through those dry lectures. And the girls that are there, are butt ugly - really, 99.99% of the time, they are.
During the 1st week of classes, you're excited to be in a new class, excited to see new people and hopefully see some fine lookin' girls in class. You listen during lecture and become very dissapointed at the fact that there are no girls in your class, and the girls that are there, are yuck - remember these are girls you wouldn't even take a second glance (let alone a first) to look at. You and many others start to ditch class, because you can "teach yourself" all the crap the prof is talking about.
Around 5th week, just before mids, everybody comes back to class, and you look around again, still with that small glimmer of hope and see that the girls are still the same, but this time, you think, "Hmm . . . that girl is alright; that one isn't bad at all; she's f@ckable . .." Remember, these are the same butt ugly looking girls.
Around 9-10th week just before finals, everybody goes to class again, and this time, as you check out the girls, you think, "Damn, she looks good, I'll go for her; She's fine, I'll ask her out . .." and so on. Remember these are the same girls.
Peculiar how 10 weeks can change someone's mind about engineering girls. That, my friend, is the plight of the male engineer . . . University Goggles.
The point the author is trying to make is that we should stop dividing the OSS community - yeah, competition is excellent (especially with the great OSS produced out there), but the problem now is we are constantly feuding with each other.
Look at the current situation . . . there are so many opponents of OSS out there SCO, MS, etc. trying to break up the unity of the OSS community. How freakin' scared the opponents must be, especially when large companies start to see the light with OSS - i.e. IBM, Novell, etc. What the opponents are trying to do is divide and conquer, before the OSS community encompasses the software industry.
MS found a strategic ally with SCO - using an OSS insider to sabotage and execute the divide and conquer strategy. MS is very smart to get one of OSS's own to break up the community.
Now, what the article is trying to say is that we shouldn't continue to widen the growing rifts between the different communities of OSS. Just as in its infancy, the OSS community should bond together, again, in a collective effort so that the opponents don't succeed.
OSS is a the best thing out there . . . I hope it doesn't implode . . .
Isn't it a wierd coincidence that they change their ranking algorithm before the end of the quarter, when people are supposed to spend the most money during the holiday shopping?
Another wierd coincidence - by the end of the next quarter, they're supposed to go public (Google IPO - oogles of $$$).
Another wierd coincidence - With Yahoo's recent acquirement of Overture, and the ownership of multiple search technologies, it is rumored that they may end their contract with Google soon, and power their own search.
Another wierd coincidence - MS "trying" to develop a better search engine, already trying to take on Google, even before Longhorn.
Now isn't that a great way to drastically increase their revenue prior to becoming public by making all the top searched commercial sites pay for ads on Google, especially when a bulk of those sites' revenue come from the upcoming holiday season?
Wow - Google seems to also know how to play chess!
That's awesome! You're in construction and you're also on /.! Especially since your uid is 4 digits long. Coolness!

FYI, there is a KDE version of Ubuntu called Kubuntu http://www.kubuntu.org/. They also state how "KDE is a great platform" to develop on here: http://www.kubuntu.org/announcements/kde-commitmen t.php.

That's funny you immediately thought about getting a new pen1s. I for one thought about printing out different types of girls.

If Gates were "S@t@n," wouldn't that make McBride the "@ntichrist?"
In terms of Warcraft III - If Gates were "Ner'zhul," wouldn't that make McBride "Arthas?"
