Does anybody remember this one? THis is what made me lose faith in all video game magazines. I haven't bought one since. Gamepro swore up and down that the Genesis version of SFII was better than its SNES counterpart in almost every way. It simply wasn't true. I owned both systems. I bought the SNES version when it first came out. I decided to rent the Genesis version since I hear it was so cool. I'm really glad I only rented it. It was pretty bad stacked up to the SNES version. Not only that, but it seems like the things Gamepro touted about the Genesis version were the worst parts (ex. sound, which was downright pathetic compared to its counterpart). I'm sure there have been earlier examples of misleading reviews but this is the one that made me put down the magazines.

Time and again I have found that those movies tend to be pretty bad (not the Michael Jackson, grab-myself-while-dancing kind of bad, but the really bad like Crocodile Dundee 2 kind of bad).

I've got a modular interface to all of my platforms. It's called molex. You can crimp wires from the joysticks and buttons onto a molex connector and then on the other side of the connector crimp wires running to your gamepad/encoder of choice. So far, I've got a Dreamcast, NES, SNES, PSX/PS2, Saturn, and a TG16 all wired up for play from a single controller through the wonders of molex. I'm getting one of the old, bulky X-Box controllers from a friend so I might have that up and running soon, but I've never looked inside that controlled so I'm not sure yet.

When traffic gets too heavy to get to work in a reasonable (according to your employer so it's a bit more than you probably consider reasonable) amount of time, your business will probably move out of the city and to a less populated area. This is happening in droves in Atlanta where businesses are moving to Norcross/Duluth, Marietta, and Alpharetta.

I'm sorry I oversimplified. I meant that vavle should have made sure they had the infrastructure necessary. I seldom deal with load issues that cannot be solved with a roundrobin DNS or some other load-balancing schemes. That's just my frame of reference. However, the bandwidth steam is doing right now is of valve's own doing. WHy is steam destroying a network? If steam is really suited to such a task, then it should not be hosing an entire network, even during heavy traffic.

Relying on a service providers to compensate for a bloated protocol sounds equally managementesque. You can bloat or not if you like but given the massive number of people using steam, it must be more efficient than it is now. If there's a finite amount of upstream then valve better make sure their protocol can handle it.

You would use a formula that predicts how many will be sold to consumers based on how many were sold to distributors. That formula varies based on the type of product you are selling and the type of store you are selling to. The marketing folks are pretty good at coming up with numbers based on these sales figures. These formulas are being used anyways by the distributors to gauge the success of the product so they make sure to have enough copies on-hand to prevent shortages.

When their distributor was filling orders, they could've come up with a rough estimate of what they expected to sell and made sure they had enough servers. Somebody just didn't do their homework.
