    Comparing MMORPGs with 2nd life is kinda unfair. SL has the advantage that there is no comparison system between players (who is "better") save money.
    He said "in any multiplayer game". I think my comment was just.

    Money, on the other hand, cannot be farmed (unless you create THE object everyone wants, but technically that's not farming).
    What? You don't remember money balls or camping chairs? While Second Life doesn't have the same developer incentives system as it used to, it still has those (annoyances?), and there are people who still use them.

    The problem is Mac OS has REAL applications. Shake (linux version thank god) Photoshop, Final Cut etc.


    You can run Photoshop with CodeWeavers's office under Linux.

    You either design the game so that its *not possible* for other players to affect your progression in any way (which is extremely limiting from a design point of view), or you use an open-drain economy and do your best to track and contain farmers and manage the farming problem.
    Or you could do the Second life method.

    In Europe, I know there are a lot pirated satellite dishes, and channels in other countries will pick up content from western channels and show it on their channels

    Pirated? It can't be pirated if it isn't illegal (decrypting a broadcast in another country where the satellite channel feed has no jurisdiction, ie: didn't pay TV licensing in). And I haven't heard of TV stations doing this.

    I'd rather see Mach binary support in the Linux kernel and a set of opensource reimplementations of Aqua, Cocoa etc.

    It would be possible then to run MacOSX applications on Linux, which would be neat for those who need a working copy of things like Photoshop.

    • It won't install on my PC or even my Amigas :(
    • It requires me to edit XML files for some settings I want to change .
    • I have to reboot for codecs!? I never had todo this on Windows or Linux.
    • As a cross-platform programming enviroment, it doesn't play well with most cross-platform *nix libraries in my expirence
    • It feels slower than windows xp on the same hardware
    • It can't play most of my games, while Linux can with native linux versions and windows versions which I run under Wine (darwine doesn't even come close).


    On the plus side for MacOSX, I think the spell checker is neat (all the ones I've tried under KDE are crappy).

    Might want to try digiKam (a KDE application), I prefer it to Picasa, also has more working features.

    Windows 2003 surprisingly enough is blue screening in directx mode. Even though I have the latest Nvidia drivers.

    Your distro's package maintainers are supposed to compile the binaries for the system (If that's the distro's philosophy) and package it.
