Unlike some of the newer PB's out there my TiBook fan only turns on after about 15 mins or so and then turns off during normal surfing and using iApps. So it's not really much of a change for me in that dept. Mail works fine. It's Earthlink's mail server which isn't working. It finally authinecated long enough to get my 40 emails of spam and then it died again. The Preference menu now flows more easily now as well.

Boot up time for me is the exact same or so small I can't tell the difference.

Able to find all our windows server and connect to it.

All items in the dock only bounce about twice now.

OpenGL effects in iTunes now run at 30 FPS almost constantly now. Before the highest it would go would be 28 FPS and it wouldn't even stay there very long.

The sleep light now tends to not breath as deeply when and in sleep mode. It also has dimmed abit as well.

Can't tell you about the fan or email yet. My email server won't authinecate and I haven't got off my PB long enough to allow it cool down to test the fan.

    Very good update.

  4. iTunes will continue to grow. on Apple Announces 25 Million Song Downloads · · Score: 5, Informative

iTunes is currently having 1.5 million tracks downloaded from it's store each week. This # will rise even more right after the holidays due to everyone claiming their iTunes Music Store Gift Certificates. That doesn't even include all the iPods they have sold thus far. Most places like CompUSA are already out of stock of the 20-30GB iPods. So this to me is sign that iTunes Music sales will probably spike right after Christmas. Right now the big rumor about the 4th Gen iPods which are coming in Jan. will not just include the normal bigger storage compacity but a ePod line in the $100-200 range. Apple is already said next yr they will open a Japan, Australia, European, and Canada music store for next yr. I and alot of people think that some these stores will open in Jan. while the rest will open about 3-4 months down the road. This would cause very large influx of downloads per week. Also starting in Feb. Pepsi will be doing it's 100 million iTunes give away which will definitely make Apples overall #'s go up and up. Right now it's been rumored that Pepsi will also be giving away 600 iPods with Pepsi logo iSkins and each will be #'ed. I believe Apple will hit 100 million by Jan. and if the McDonalds promo iTunes deal goes through those #'s will just continue to increase. So no I don't see it slowing down. On a side note it's nice to see Winamp 5 guys went with AAC from Dolby. Which just goes to show the AAC std is catching on.

That is why I believe OS X is better then Windows simply because more folks can help fix it. Now all Apple will do is take the code for the fix and tweak it abit and add an installer and call it a Offical Security Update. This sucker will probably be out before end of Dec. Right now they are working on getting 10.3.2 ready for the public since it's going through it's final seeding to developers which just happened over last Fri. I expect a release for it this week unless some bugs got discovered in this final seeding.

You can always covert protected AAC(MP4) to WAV and then to MP3 though you will lose some sound quality. If you rip your own CD's you can rip them in plain AAC(Dolby std) which means it will play in any cd player or mp3 player that accepts AAC files. AAC basically allows you have 128k file and make it sound like you ripped it at 192k. Get an iPod because right now all the girls want them atleast all my friends GF's do. Also Pepsi will be giving away 100 million songs away starting in Feb. so if she drinks Pepsi she could then actually use those free songs on here computer and iPod, so it would be like the gift that keeps on giving

  12. Apple sold iPods at 10% off on Black Fri. on Finding Holiday Discounts on iPods? · · Score: 2, Informative

Where were you? This was through their retail chain and online store as well which also included Canada through it's online store.

You can also buy them at discount through edu and gov discounts.

Also if you don't mind a refurb goto www.smalldog.com as they sell new and used models people have traded in for a new model.

Apple is suppose to be releasing a 4th Gen iPod at MacWorld so you might want to buy them after MacWorld Expo because all them will get a price break once the new iPods are introduced.

Apple also sells refurbs through it's website from time to time..but they go very quickly.

    http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/A ppleStore.woa/71008/wo/dOaNYUHhfbRL2SgrDmK2aPropaP /0.0.7.1.0.5.13.0.3.0.0.0.0.3.1.1.0?84,58

Right now they got the following(refurbs from Apple Direct):

iPod 10GB (Mac & Windows) Dock not included $229.00

    iPod 15GB (Mac & Windows) $279.00

    iPod 30GB (Mac & Windows) $349.00

Also check Best Buy for open box sales.

Also another reason most reseller won't cut prices on iPods is because they are the hot item for Christmas this yr. I know for a fact at two CompUSA's here they sell between 30-100 iPods a week compare to all the other MP3 players which they may sell 5 if their lucky.

My friend at CompUSA told me they sold 2 Dell DJ's even with a sale on them. Now compare that to the iPod sales which they sold 45 of at reg pricing. So why should Apple or resellers drop the price when they sell that well even when others have discounts on their MP3 Players.

Also Apple has another thing going for it. The iPod is fashionable because it's the "in thing" to have at HS and Colleges. About half of the college girls on campus here have them.

Now if Apple comes out with it's econ. priced iPod and similar video type iPod I think they will pretty much kill the rest of the market.

Apple has already seeded a copy of 10.3.2 to developers twice in the last two weeks which included new security updates. Apple has recently started selling iPods through Target, CompUSA, Best Buy and Circuit City and all 3 offer insurance that basically replaces your iPod with a new one if issues happen to it. Most are offering 3yrs for $30.00 approx. and 4yrs for $40.00 approx. Also Apple now offers AppleCare for all new iPods and for iPods under a yr old like mine. This is 2yr deal from the the date you bought your iPod. This includes tech support which now has tips to help improve your battery charges. The price is $59.00 or $46.00 with edu. discount. Apple has also a battery replacement program for $99.00 for users with original iPods or iPods out of warranty. There is also many 3rd party battery service now available to iPod users that either gives them DIY kit or they actually do all the work for you type service. Most places are charging between $25-50 dollars range depending on what you get. So stop complaining and use one of the above services. Also if you don't want to mess with any of it get creative and make nice firewire external HD out of it. I currently have 40GB iPod and had no problems with it at all. I plan on buying the new vPod as soon as it comes out next yr.
