You're all missing the point. He's not saying that all terrorists have been Muslim. He's saying that all terrorists involved in this current 'War on Terror' have been.

These airport checks are not intended to filter out abortion clinic bombers, the lunatic Tim McVeighs and Ted Kaczynskis of the world. They were instituted as a direct result of 9/11 and the threats of further attacks from Al Queda and affiliated groups who want to attack the US. Tim McVeigh has nothing to do with that.

I'm not saying racial profiling is necessarily the way to go. I have a problem with it, just as you do. But at the same time, you still need to profile. Serial killers are traditionally profiled as middle-aged white males. It's a profile based upon previous cases and psychological assessments. How is this different? Yes, you still want to investigate the 20-something Asian guy if you have reason to do so, but you still initially focus on the people who fit the profile.

This removes that supply problem entirely if it works of course.

Let's think of this from a business standpoint: patent the process. Produce titanium in small numbers to prevent market saturation. Charge the same amount as everyone else, but at 10% the production cost. I don't see the savings being passed to the consumer anytime soon.

  4. No, it won't on The Potential of Science With the Cell Processor · · Score: 0, Offtopic

I'm going to disagree with you here. Here's my game system buying guide:

-I'll buy a DS Lite the day it comes out. There are several games I like and several more coming.

-I'll buy an XBox 360 when Splinter Cell comes out.

-I'll buy a PS2 as soon as I decide I can't go without playing Guitar Hero any longer.

-I'll pre-order a Wii (provided Twilight Princess remains a launch title)

-I do not see myself ever purchasing a PS3.

Each system offers me something. The DS gives me portability and a growing library of games, including some real gems. The XBox 360 gives me Live, wireless controllers, and games that I would like to play: Oblivion, Fight Night Round 3, etc. Wii is my only 'must-have' system. A low price, innovation, a lot of developer support, and established exclusive franchises. Not to mention the ability to play tons of SNES, NES, and Sega games. PS3 offers me... nothing. The only thing that would possibly entice me is the number of RPG's traditionally available on the PS systems, but I never bought a PS2 and the price was MUCH lower. Final Fantasy isn't worth $700 to me.

Every discussion I have had regarding consoles has ended the same way. People who don't have a 360 yet plan on getting one within the year, everyone wants the Wii, and the PS3 gets a big, "So what?"

The PS3 may have the hardware advantage, but that's all it offers. From a gaming perspective, Sony has yet to give me one good reason to spend my money on a console with technology that won't be fully utilized until about two years after release, a video disc format that won't be widespread until at least a year after release (if ever), and HD (which I don't have).

At least the scientists are getting something out of it. Now if Sony gave me a system that could do complex COMSOL models, I'd be interested.

  7. "Dating Service" perception on What Do You Want in a Job Website? · · Score: 2, Interesting

I think the biggest problem is perception. I have never used a job-finding website, nor do I plan to. My impression of these services is that any worthwhile employer doesn't need to turn to the internet to find employees. Employers may very well feel the same way. If someone has to go online to find a job, then how valuable can he or she be? I suspect that these 'services' suffer from the same stigma as online dating services. That's the problem. Getting rid of that image would go a long ways. Gear the service towards finding obscure jobs. I'm sure there are many small companies out there that job-seekers don't even know exist. I'm an engineering student and am constantly amazed when I take a new road and come across a new engineering firm within 30 minutes of my home, and this is rural South Jersey! In large cities, the numbers are probably mind boggling. I would suggest networking. Touch base with smaller companies, startups, etc. and get them to use your service. Do away with the, "Anyone can sign up and recruit employees," model. Require an application with information on the company before allowing them an account. Quality control is KEY. On the job-seekers side, target schools. While you obviously wouldn't want to restrict yourself to graduating students, that should still be a primary target market. Either way, the biggest issue is getting past the 'dating service' preconception. Do that, and you're gold.

  8. Japanese pricing on Review of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex · · Score: 2, Informative

In Japan, anime DVD's are much more expensive. In the case of series, they tend to pay per episode as opposed to per disc. A single disc with three episodes could cost $45 or more. If prices in the US were drastically lower, most people in Japan would simply import their anime from us. If that happened, the Japanese companies would stop licensing source material to the US because it would cost them too much money.

  9. Pop-ups and system health on Why Do You Block Ads? · · Score: 1

There are two main reasons I block ads. The first is simply because I despise pop-ups with a passion. They are invasive and annoying. The other reason comes from Flash ads. My laptop is not a slouch by any means. Even so, many Flash ads noticably slow my system down. Scrolling through a webpage's contents becomes slow and jerky, multitasking suffers, and graphic-intensive programs such as Solidworks and World of Warcraft become almost unplayable. I have nothing against advertisements. But when they prevent me from performing other tasks, they're no better than spyware and virii.
