when I was told in no uncertain terms that Psych was a Science, IQ was thought to mean something. The more "enlightened" we have become, the less Psych looks, like a Science and the less IQ actually measures. IQ tests are rarely (never?) culturally neutral, and repeat tests increase IQ in many cases. Personally I was measured to be 2SD above the mean whilst at Uni - that does not mean that I have been or will be any more successful (whatever success means btw) than my less "intelligent" friends and colleagues. IQ has never really measured anything useful imo, and probably never will.
when I suggested that the US was behind the race because of imperial/metric conversions that resulted in a Mars probe hitting Mars rather than landing on it. Having gone through a metric conversion her in Oz in the late 60's. early 70's, I can assure you that the only places you will hear non metric references are : 1 - babies wtf are they still measured in lb - 2 - old cockies (farmers) who measure their holdings in acres/ miles etc, and 3 - monitors( computer/TV/mobile screens etc) . Your ex president did the US no favours by disbanding the metric board - frankly he was a fool who had no understanding of global science let alone the usefulness of a common system throughout the world.
Unfortunately your comment was labelled "Funny". "Sad but true" would have been more accurate. I can assure non-believers (in chess) that many of my best students in Math are also very good chess players. Correlation yes, causative maybe but the thinking processes seem to be similar.
and is a sign of the future I think. The $US has been declining for some time - well the underlying economy has - , and the recent GFC did nothing so stem the tide.
"The only reason to own one is that they're fashionable and hip." Not quite as simple as that but I agree that many people will buy one for those reasons. Think large screen e-reader for vision impaired for example. Disclaimer - I own one and I do have a vision impairment. In my opinion, they are better than a laptop for reading - size, weight, manouverability......
which costs the same as a sat phone, but with no ongoing call costs, will probably do better than a sat phone anyway - especially with the latest digital technologies. Even some of the less recent digital modes eg psk31 are probably better than sat phones in physical conditions that block sat phones, such as under forest cover. Unfortunately there are no (to my knowledge anyway) cheap/free digital voice modes available for HF radio and mere mortals yet.
I just wonder how the now six year old is going to testify? Hell, most of us cant remember what we were thinking yesterday that led us to do certain actions. How can a six year old possible remember what she was thinking and doing at the time of the accident? I''d say her memory would be at least tainted by the stories she has been told about the accident since then - especially now it is in the public eye again.
it is up to individuals - you, me, businesses, corporations - to secure their digital "assets". It is the governments role to secure the country. If my lack of preparedness affects national security then yes the government should take over, otherwise they should not have to. So, imo the Aussie government is doing the right thing.
I use digital almost exclusively and have wondered about when a suitable open source voice project would emerge. I look foreward to seeing it developed further.

(which I hope does not come true). This will lead to further scaremongering and the vaccination rate will drop to a new low, leading to a another surge in some of the awful childhood diseases that have until recently been all but eradicated in western societies.
I use an article, you buy it, then you sue me for using it before you owned it? Sorry I do not understand - the system that allows this is seriously fucked!
It is not only young people who don't read newspapers. I don't read newspapers, and I am certainly not young. I suspect if you look in any food hall and watch people 'reading" you'll actually see "browsing". So yes, except for specialised publications, people don't read and wont pay to do so.
I'll buy in as a former telstra customer - well I am 'forced" to give them line rental still but that is all. They fucked over my dad at age 78 and persuaded him that he needed a new mobile (cell) phone that he the discovered was costing him a fortune and he couldn't work out how to use anyway. I second the vote for Westnet. I have used them for a number of years and got my Dad onto them after the f-wits at Telstra did f-all to help him. Westnet may not be the cheapest - actually I don't know because I haven't checked -, but their customer service is second to none. My Dad's dsl connection is now with them and they email ME when he calls with a problem, to tell me what has transpired. Yes I pay for the connection but hell that is effing good service in my books.
"should people be allowed to take the risk", but "why shouldn't they be allowed to". Personally I want to have the right to decide my treatment once I am fully informed as to the possible consequences. This especially applies to "end of life" scenarios such as debilitating illnesses that have no known cure.

the 41% are just more stupid/careless/unthinking/trusting than the remaining 59%.
quite a lot of cars seem to be drive without the engagement of a human brain. Perhaps Google is on to something here?
Well, I'm cynical enough to believe that MS offered a nice package that they couldn't refuse.
Yes they are usually called lawyers

Whoever loses this will be totally rooted - just like the patent system. Maybe the Judge will tell MS to get rooted .....
Well you can't account for the fuckwit effect. Put a suggestion in a fuckwits head and they'll follow it.

Don't you mean " open the pod PAY doors Hal"
Yep. Give a moron a gun - or anything else for that matter - and you can expect him/her to not use it properly.
Yes, I heard about this a couple of days ago - on VKlogger forums maybe? Have made a donation to the cause by the way. Tim

so I estimate that the final cost to the consumer will be somewhere in the region of $1000 - it is a "medical" device after all.
Is anyone else getting a "jumble" when looking at NYCL site?
