They could have turned this into a great commerial.
Some guy that only orders stuff from companies that ship with fedex so he can get the boxes to make furniture or something to that effect. Now they are looking like some company who just want to pick on the little guy.
Linux does not have a big footing in the desktop market and may never have. But MAC OS X beat Linux as a server platform I do not see it happening. I could be wrong
I can see someone using this system to direct an attack on someone's network. For instance.
Cracker Hijacks network A to Attack B
B attacks A. Then B Attacks A.
Both networks go down in flames.
Have we not learned anything from War Games.
According to the article this namesapce is strictly for mobile devices. The actual TLD has not decided yet. This is going to be a namespace for your mobile number for instance bob.jones.cingular.mobile will be your mobile phone or wifi address. Well let us see how this one plays out.
And send it to the US Patent and Trademark Office. stating the fact that there are prior art out there and this patent 20030189597 should not be issued.
That microsoft is scared of linux. Because they want to know their 'enemy' in a sense. But also just from a pure techinical stand point is also good to know how other people do things so you can learn from them and improve on how you do things
AOL is losing money to companies that are offering a cheaper service so now when a customer calls and wants to cancel they can offer them a cheaper service and still keep their customer.
But even with that fact HyperSoar which would fly from Los Angeles to New York in 35 minutes. How long would you have to wait at the airport to get on the plane?
But an easy way for your devices to communicate is needed. As a geek I can easily put together any stereo, video, gaming, blah blah blah system. Alot of just wants to be able to plug the device into any spot and have it work. What would really be cool is a hub like device the make it easier for people to connect different entertainemnt compents and have them work nicely with each other.
But when push comes to shove the courts system is going to have the final say so. I hope with all my heart that whatever judge oversees this case will make the correct decision and squash SCO like the bug they are.
This solution makes my think about how many times we want to throw technology at a problem. When the answer is something that is has already been done.
If you write something that is usefull and/or fun. People are going to use it. For example I use the Spreadsheet::WriteExcel module at work. Yes perl writing excel documents. I used because there was a need. I fixed a bug in one of the optional modules because that was a feature we use and need to work correctly. Would I ever picked up and use that module on my own. Maybe if I came across it and wanted to create an spreadsheet for some silly reason but I highly doubt it. But I had a need to create an excel spreadsheet on a unix server so I filled that need.
I am waiting for the prices to go down in the glasses version of this type of technology. That would allow me to not only added data wile I am riding but when I am walking down the street. Imagine you can pull up your date file an impress her with all the stuff you remember about her. Also you can have that poem there for you to recite that will rock.
The problem with any system in place is that when convenience is place ahead of security. The more convenient it is made for the people who it is going to protect and the people who are enforcing the system the less secure it will become. Well at least that is what I think part of the problem is.

How long will it take for MS to come out the 64bit Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. The say first quarter next year. But we all know about these timetables how tend to change.
I have seen some pretty cool commericals pushing mp3 players. And I even some music videos where there were ipods in them. These are now the next "cool" tech toys to have. Also they are convient also.
Talking in reference of GPL. "It's not just a crazy idea that some lefty Commie hippie dreamed up in a drug-induced stupor." I just love how Linus say what is on his mind.
Will it take for such a thing to be done with (put in your favorite encryption scheme). Dictionary attacks will become easier everyday because computing power and hard drive space are becoming more abundent. Is the answer just to move to a bigger set of prime number each time computing power get bigger or to move to a another type of encrytption scheme all together well only time will tell.
I am thinking spy stuff now because this trend you have that critical file excahnged without detection (yeah right). Or you can hide your critical data in one of these just a thought
