You forgot to take two things into consideration (actually you did slightly mention my second point):
you can badly burn your skin if you touch two wires with two different fingers of the same hand. The reason is because there is less skin/distance which means less resistance which means more Amps.
You can also badly hurt yourself if you get in contact with a charged capacitor (because you can get a few hundred or even thousands Volt shock).
So make sure you know what you are doing, or else...
I think it connects to a peer and asks it to forwards connections to you (kind of port forwarding) in the case where you are behind a firewall/router and aren't able to open a port.
regedit on macintosh did something like this. You defined a template and it generated a basic UI to edit the config. This kind of stuff is easy to do if everybody uses a standard config format (eg xml) and takes the time to write down all the possibilities (eg writing a dtd).
I have tried to get so many friends to switch over to firefox, and their first reactions were: 1) mozilla ? Their old browsers sucked. 2) firefox ? It sounds like a firewall software.
anyways, after taking the time to explain them what firefox really is, they were all convinced.
talk about pollution !
If the email can be transported by motor bike, then the distances musn't be much, how much would a simple cable connecting the different villages cost ?
People should help/invest in getting them a proper infrastructure (electricity, phones, simple internet terminals).
Now that people are switching to flat screens, I'm sure old computer hardware can be useful to such countries.
However, even if you're just porting your existing drivers, it's not really clear that Linus Torvalds' opinion on this matter is even relevant. If *all* of the kernel copyright holders agree with him, then you're probably safe, but there's a good chance that a contributor who disagrees can come after you anyway, particularly if your code touches his.
How can your code touche his when you are writing an external driver ?
I hate it when I PAY for an audio cd and it won't run in my car cd player because of 0.01 cent worth copy protection.

Well let's see, should I donate by taxes to debian or gentoo developers... How about SCO, they are non-profit, right ?
