Its rarely a policy. I just a quit a telemarketing gig. The policy was "Give the Prospect the opportunity to hang up first". Granted with the IQ of the average telemarketer it was interpeteted as you cant hang up until the prospect does.
I dont know about the no market comment. This type of thing happens in the CATV industry all the time. One rural town had a cable system built entirely with stolen equipment and the system was awarded to the victim of the theft. My chief suspect would be a contractor who needed the cards to finish a job elsewhere.
Exactly. I received the same letter last month and interpeted it the same way. The presentation here made me qeustion me qeustion my prior conclusions and dig up the letter. It was a disservice to Slashdot's readers.
Being as none of these cases have actually gone to court yet I think it is safe to say that the value of the RIAA's evidence has yet to be proven. When and if the RIAA actually takes someone to court it would not surprise me at all if a situation similar to Direct TV smart card lawsuits occurs. Where no one who refuses to admit to wrongdoing is convicted.
Good point. The differences interest more then the parallels though. People read less and less text today but not because of legality, but because TV and Burgers are greater then Bread and Circuses. It is not necessary to destroy to the truth, you just have to come up with a more compelling lie and the masses will believe in it. Fahrenheit 451 was a decent cautionary tale but I dont know that I would watch a remake. The cautionary tale that screams at me "Remake me and show how I relate to 2004's culture" is Brazil.
The permitted acts are vaguely described and will result in countless lawsuits. Particularly troubling is the phrase "if the court determines" in the middle of a sentence containing so many phrases it could be construed to mean just about anything.
Jeez I dont know if there are any sentences in Mein Kamph that long.
yet from another Yahoo poll released an hour later americans feel great about things. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20061231/ap_on_re_us/op timism_ap_poll

Remember they have to pay unemployment on a dismissal for "poor attitude".
Its been a great year overall. Thanks to groklaw we know SCO's case is much worse then OJ's.

This should eliminate a lot of the poor quality copies.

the link is slashdotted. Oatmeal made with coffee instead of water is actually palatable.

Anybody ever heard this exspression? Seems very apt here.
