Tyranosaurus existed because we have 10 fossils. Prior to 1993 we had 3 of them. Three bones. For a species that was around longer than ours have been. We had the right bones to know what they ate and roughly how big they were and even their approximate shape. We have no idea how smart they were, if they were social creatures ... and no means of finding out either.

I'm sure if they had made large objects out of steel (skyscrapers?) we would have seen some evidence of that.

A $200 card that gives you 120FPS is not twice as good as a $100 card that gives you 60FPS.

It is when the next generation of games comes around. And even for current games you can just set for maximum anti-aliasing and that will get you back down to 60 :)

Also, its not all about average framerates - gotta keep the minimum framerates in mind. I'd rather have a card with a rock steady 45fps than one that averages 60 but often drops into the 30s and below.

Personally, I don't see how non-square pixels are in any way going to be able to help make a smoother image -they have to have edges somewhere, if those edges don't match up with the edges in the image you're displaying, you're out of luck.

But with variable-shaped pixels, you could custom the pixel to fit the edges of the image!
