In other news, archeologists have discovered what they believe is a missing page from The Bible. If proven to be legitimate, it is believed to go at the front of the book and reads:
"The following works are entirely fictional and any relation to real events or persons, living or dead, is pure coincidence."

Slashdot have nothing to worry about. After all, we all know that every poster on slashdot is an angel with only the best intentions at heart!:)
Ok, I slipped up with the single word "elitests", sorry about being human. It's not a word I use every day, unlike the common homonyms there/their/they're, your/you're which are in common use and still frequently misused by people who should know better.
a) I'm not making a initial or final decision, and certainly not due to others' attitudes. I said I will make a decision (final or not) in my own time, on my own terms.
b) I never said "I won't buy one because I hate fanboys". My argument was that I would try/use one when I wanted to, not just because another person or persons feel the need to push me into it.
c) Fanboys (for any subject) are imaginary? News to me.
If I give the Mac a shot, who knows... I might even love it! I'm happy enough with my current system that I see no need to try one yet.
If I end up getting one I'll let you know.:P
I have nothing against Macs at all. I've never used one except for like 15 years ago at school, so my experience is pretty limited.
The thing that pisses me off is your stereotypical Mac user. "OMG sif use M$ Windoze you should use Macs there way kewl" (spelling/grammar errors intended).
I'll use a Mac if and when I decide to try it and if I like it, not just because a Mac user pushes me around. Linux elitests can be somewhat similar in this, but usually not half as bad.
I've used Ubuntu desktop briefly and I quite liked it. There's only two reasons I haven't moved to it: a) JMicron support is still screwy, b) I'm too scared to run World of Warcraft (the only game I play) after the whole Cedega banned account deal (even if it's supposedly resolved now).
How the hell is that comment redundant? If you don't think it's funny, just leave it alone so that people with a sense of humour can read it.

Oooh I vaguely remember that game too...
Back then I think I was playing games like Dungeon Hack and its ilk.
I remember Epic Megagames back in the day, are they the same Epic that does the whole Unreal Tournament thing?
If so, I want Jill of the Jungle in the new Unreal Engine.

Is that average taken from the bounded universe or from the space available?
Given that the universe is still expanding (for the time being), the bounding box (sphere?) would be increasing. Since matter/energy cannot be created nor destroyed (screw you, creationists) we have the following formula, where m represents the number of whole atoms in the universe (ignoring subparticles for now), d represents the amount of 3d space in metres^3 currently used by the universe's bounding box/sphere/whatever, a represents the density of the universe in particles per cubic metre and t represents light years since the big bang: a = m / d
If we assume that the universe was originally a point entity of 0 size and the universe will eventually stop expanding and contract for the big crunch, we can plot a graph of time by density with 2 vertical asymptotes at t = 0 and t = (life of the universe), and a horizontal asymptote at a = 0.
This means that when the universe gets middle-aged, two things will happen:
-- the density of the universe will reach a trough approaching 0 (the universe will make itself scarce by going down the pub on Fridays),
-- the universe will begin contracting again, increasing the density once more (the universe will stay at home more incase the wife finds out it's been giving one-liners to the hot blondes at said pub).

Too scared to login before making those claims, AC? Just because you believe something was faked doesn't mean it was.
To be quite honest I don't care either way. Since then we've:
- positioned a solar observatory at the Langragian point between the Earth and the Sun,
- landed robots on Mars and driven them around taking pictures like tourists,
- done a fly-by of Saturn and returned breathtaking first-hand photographs,
- launched a probe below the surface of an icy moon bringing back countless wealths of information.
Landing a couple of guys on the Moon? Sure it might have been inconceivable back in '69, and the yanks *may* have done the dodge, but does it really matter? Hell no.
> The dichotomy that exists between Microsoft Java (which is pretty bad) and Sun Java is, if not jarring, quite irritating. Thankfully, Sun Java is the norm. But if Sun Java is released under the GPL, I expect to see several more versions of Java, most of them incompatible with each other, coming out soon. Iceweasel, anyone?
Anyone know if C2D/JMicron support has been fixed in the final release?
If not, that's VERY poor since I believe the issues have since been fixed in the latest kernel.
A note to all Core 2 Duo owners or potential buyers, if your motherboard has a JMicron IDE controller, you're screwed (again, unless they've fixed it).

Something to add to their list right next to Lik-Sang.
