Frankly they're annoying. The software world in general (notwithstanding governments) really never cared too much for firewalls. In fact, only websites did. Yet now, we have everyone under the sun bitching about how insecure Windows is because of this or that.

Newsflash, they weren't thinking of security at the time, and I'm sure you weren't either.

Yeah, that's where it shines though, knowing your system inside and out. Thats where Linux is, and will be for sometime. It makes sense use it for specific functionality than a main OS, unless you're strapped for cash. I know of many scenarios where using Linux kicks Windows in the ass, but that's seriously comparing apples and oranges. Linux can be molded to your hearts content, but to have a generally supported desktop that is easy to compare notes on the level of having the same kernel and module subset, that's where it gets tricky. Fixing issues I've had in Linux tends to vary from distro to distro, giving me the impression that each flavor is a completely different OS in subtle aspects. This is where Windows shines. Uniformity. Everything has it's place and it's use. And Linux, as most can concede, is not quite ready for the common man, and might not be for sometime. When it comes to a nice custom OS to a specific scenario, Linux can strut its stuff.

If you've ever had a busy schedule, you'd realize that public transit misses the mark big time. Most of your time goes into bus rides and waits. I, for one, think that driving is a nessecity, and to limit it to those willing to be bent over the preverbal log to have some "protection" mechanism in place is absurd. I would not tolerate this one bit. Illegal if it must be.
