Problem is, in any area I've lived, you typically have two choices for your broadband ISP: Whomever is your local bell and whomever is your cable provider. The other DSL providers all go through your local bell and cable modems are pretty much the same or even exclusive.
Unless you are willing to go dialup, that means one switch only.
It isn't a real hard thing to do most times as long as you know what you are looking for and the machine doesn't touch any form of a network during cleaning.
Yes, it takes awhile. Then again, would you upgrade an OS on a virus infested machine? Of course not!
With how many files in your playlist though? Sure, I have a buttload of plugins for my foobar, and it is eating up a huge amount of RAM... but I have 11 tabs open of playlists, one of which is over 20,000 songs long. WinAMP tends to twitch and die at that point, especially 3.x and 5.x from what I've seen of other people. I personally don't run that program since I keep my machine AOL free.
You are talking about WinAMP and not some other program, right? The same WinAMP that produced v3 that had more bloatware than most major word processing programs? (exaggeration)
If you want an audio player that isn't bloated, hit up foobar - just don't give me this crap that WinAMP isn't bloated. Even 5.x is. 2.x you might be able to argue about, but not the others.
... or not... I bought a GBA because of GB/GBC compatability very near launch. Never owned a GB. I bought a PS2 because of PS1 compatability a bit after launch - my PSX had been dead for 2 years.
Those got me as a customer because of that. Obviously I wouldn't be the only one.
Police Units - check. Multiple pollution/ecodamage reducing structures, check. Methods of not having drone riots beyond increasing luxuries/psych, another police unit, or building entertainment, check. Wider tech tree - check. Corruption reduction - check. Waste - doesn't exist.
Sounds good to me, what about you? Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri fits all of those requirements... sure, it is older than Civ 3, but in my opinion it is vastly superior.
I mean, if no features are worth sacrificing security over, so would being able to use a computer. I mean, you can solve ALL security problems by unplugging the computer - no one will EVER break into the data from a network then, right?... yeah. Think. There are quite a few things where the feature is better than security. Having said this though, I just want to know what programs are broken now. I hope none of mine, as then I'd have to stick with SP1 for awhile.
It is one registry key!* Ye gods, I mean, most shells' installers even change the key for you!
Mind you, this is coming from someone who is using Litestep as a shell and a heavily modified command line as a file manager, but come on... no need to exaggerate what you just did. Maybe it is just because you were too "anti-Windoze" to realize that Windows is actually not nearly as difficult as you make it seem. Linux isn't that difficult either.
*(This is, of course, only for NT4/2000/XP - Under a 9x, you don't even open the registry to do it!)
Of course, seeing how I just updated this morning and all.
Trust me, the machine is clean. Been clean for a long time. It is incredibly easy to keep clean, as long as you use your noodle and take some time out initially to set things up.
The last time either of these found anything: Over 5 months ago. Give you a hint, I only switched to Moz 4 months ago. The last time I ran an update on both: This morning.
Sounds like FUD spreading to me from both sides. Does it take effort to stop? You bet! Of course, I haven't had to put any effort into it for a long time now, but it is really simple to do as long as you use that squishy stuff between your ears.
DSL (crappy service, worse tech support, and it will never be cheaper than the below rates because Bellsouth.net has a monopoly):
1.5 Mbit down / 256 Kbit up: 50 USD/month.
256 Kbit down / 128 Kbit up: 40 USD/month.
Cable (which isn't offered in my particular neighborhood. Of course, it sucks anyways):
1.5 Mbit down / DIALUP UP: 50 USD/month.
Wireless (just now being offered in my city):
3.0 Mbit down / 768 Kbit up: 50 USD/month.
Odd, in the top 10 on google that I just searched (looking for "to be or not to be", including quotes), all 10 had that phrase in them either in the page or the title of the page.
I play on my PS2 and N64 on my monitor, personally. My 17" LCD monitor has a built in TV tuner, including a bunch of fun little ports for me to plug things into. It has Picture in Picture as well, so I can play in a window or in full screen.
VGA Boxes add a similar functionality to any monitor (well, anything using a standard VGA cable). They set you back more than a TV Tuner does, but you won't have any lag problems or even need to turn on the PC first! Doesn't matter about the PC OS... you get the idea.
Yeah, but then the administration would have a problem.
Namely, if they start treating dorm access like if they were an ISP (which is basically what you are suggesting with the last sentence), they would also have the responsibilities of one... Example: I complain when my 'net access goes out both at dorm and at home with my DSL. Difference is that if at home I'm out more than 6 hours because of 'network issues' (not a physical problem), I complain to the point where my DSL provider gives me a month free. I can't do that at the University.
If I could, I'd never be paying for network access in the dorm. I'm pretty sure that some universities don't want to walk down that road. On top of it, they would need to provide more of a priority to their dorm network (as all of the Unis I've visited that aren't > 10000 students have higher priority to main campus rather than dorms), more support, et cetra.
As it is now, at least in my Uni, the 'network fee' is non-existant - it is just bundled into our tuition and room/board fees. Thus, we cannot treat access to the network as something that we can be refunded for. If they would do what you just suggested, that would open a huge can of worms for all of the Unis with 'not-quite-so-great' network access. I know I for one would use DSL instead of this Uni's network if I had a chance.

If anything, being on the internet and communicating with other people is vastly more "socializing" than staring at a television.
Yes, I'm complaining about the summary. I read the article and I know it covers more than just TV watching, but come on here!
Then.... clean the machine?
It isn't a real hard thing to do most times as long as you know what you are looking for and the machine doesn't touch any form of a network during cleaning.

What, in your opinion, is the best internet comic strip other than PennyArcade, and why?

It was already running incredibly slowly BEFORE slashdot posted the article.
OS: Windows XP Professional ... but mine isn't. :P
Shell: Litestep
Strange, mine looks just fine under Firefox 0.8.0.
In fact, it looks pretty much identical to what it look like in IE, minus the ads.
Yeah, except it also involves an animal which in this event is incapable of telling said adult no.
Yes, you can shove a banana up your nose and down your throat. No way in hell am I going to say, "No, sorry, you don't have the right to do so."

What old systems? Do YOU have one of these motherboard? If you do, where did you get the PCI-Express video card?

Works fine on Firestarfish... er.. Firefox.
I don't even have the user agent string changed.
Q1: Oh, nothing at all. Just modified for my convenience, nothing more.
Q2: Absolutely nothing. The parent mentioned 2xExplorer as his/her file manager. Mine is a heavily modified command line. Just a simple parallel.

City? It's population is under 500!

Hell, considering I'm a resident of that county, I wouldn't even call it a village! That is like an incredibly stuck up housing development!
Actually, they HAVE been in more than one game. I know Cloud has been in 4 at the very least.
FF7
FFT
Kingdom Hearts
Eherhiz (or however the heck you spell that).
Sephy has been in FF7 and KH as well at the very least...
