I was thinking of Euclid's First Postulate ("A straight line segment can be drawn joining any two points"), but I guess I should've been more careful with my wording.
It's obvious that the sun goes around us, isn't it? It rises every morning in the east and sets in the west. This belief is so obvious that no one thought of contradicting it for thousands of years.
And it's also obvious that given any two distinct points, there is exactly one line that includes both points. Isn't it? It has never been proven, nor can it be proven. But it seems so obvious!
Nothing in this life is as simple as you believe it to be, and nothing is obvious.

That is a funny post, but you can't blame the sales person.:)
Israel is a multi-cultural country made up of many different people or varying origins; we have the coffee cultures to prove it. Here are the main ones:
The Eastern/Arabic coffee culture. Turkish/Greek coffee mostly, which is what people here assume you mean when you say black coffee. It can be served with many different spices, and is probably the most popular coffee brew in Israel, mostly with the working class. The "Ma and Pap" (e.g. "Pitzutziot") and 7-11 style shops sell these, which are rarely found in corporate coffee chains. "American black coffee" is simply instant or filter coffee, with no milk - which is something almost no one here drinks.
The Italian coffee culture. It was actually introduced by corporate coffee chains similiar to Starbuck's (the local Aroma and Arcafe chains). The main drinks served there are the standard Espresso, Cappucino, and Latté. A favourite with women is Iced Coffee. These brews are mostly popular with the high-tech and academic crowds. An interesting fact is that the "Americano" type of coffee isn't sold here, as far as I know. We have short (1:1 water to coffee ratio), long (2:1) and double (2:2) Espresso servings.
American/Western coffee culture (instant coffee). This is mostly popular here with people who like the weaker coffee types (and sometimes teens). It's the most accessible brew (primarily to small business who don't have coffee machines), but rarely found in the corporate coffee chains. Most offices in Israel offer instant coffee to the workers instead of the American filter coffee (or drip brew) machine - which is next to non-existant in Israel. Like I said before - this is rarely drank in the style of "American black coffee". Usually it is served as "2 sugar, with milk".
Oh, by the way, "Shovar" actually means voucher, not black. Next time try:
"Ca-feh, Na-meh-s, bli khalav, bli sookar." (Translation: Coffee, instant. No milk, no sugar)
Good luck and have a pleasant time in our insane little country:)
I am not at all surprised that my comment has not received a single moderation point, while your reply which says absolutely nothing was modoerated up.
The Car of the Year award is international, and has nothing to do with marketing. 58 members from EU countries who are mostly journalists and car professionals choose the best cars in their opinions based on their up and down sides. Do you seriously believe that Mazda has a smaller marketing budget than FIAT? Toyota? BMW? Mercedes? Please!
Can you seriously expect me to believe that FIAT car parts are more expensive than Mercedes car parts? That's obviously not true. They might be expensive compared to other small-car lower-level brand car part prices (maybe Seat, probably Hyundai, KIA, and the rest). I can believe that, though here (in Israel) the car part prices aren't priced very differently, most of the times being cheaper (not by much).
Finally, I want to see some links to proof of what you claim. I don't really care whether they indeed are problematic or not - I like non-computerized cars best. All I treuly care about is fairness and open-mindedness. Slashdot lacks these qualities mostly, with the Linux and FSF/OSF zealots bashing everything (including GoodThings(TM)) that comes out of MS and anything that doesn't go hand-in-hand with their world view.
Fact is, though, that Microsoft are also making car computer systems for Mercededes-Benz and BMW - two of the most prominent German (read: best) car manufacturers in the world. Not to mention Volvo (the safest), Citroen (one of the biggest innovators, sister of Peugeot), Honda (some of the best engines: innovators of VTEC), Toyota (best selling manufacturer in the US) and Hyundai (uhm.. the Getz is sort of fine, I guess?).
Can you criticize all of these brands as well?
By the way, the new Fiat Panda is extremely cheap and also a reliable, fun to drive car. I get to see quite a bit of these here.
Interesting that we search far away places looking for the origins of life, and new life (Titan, Mars) and there may be some in our own back yard (the OCEAN!).

What do you prefer, then? That Mono would have never been created?.NET technology is here to stay, and it is superior to Java technology - at the current state. People are enthusiastic about C# for a reason. I'd rather let the technology exist, and allow the opinions and decisions that people choose (wrong as some of them are), then limit the choices of people to "the right choice".
Let's just hope that everything works out as good as it can, for the sake of portability.

The problem here is NOT the technology, it's the people who are pushing the project and prefer Windows (If it is not a better choice for the specific project).
And you are right. I developed a Windows Forms project and to use a certain library, I had to use legacy Windows HANDLEs. This means it won't work on Linux without a change or a port of the library. Portability did not really matter, for that project. It does matter, however, for certain projects - using OS-neutral libraries is a must for those projects.
If Mono port the.NET Framework as well, and Microsoft does not object - it just might be enough. Free.NET based libraries which will work on Windows and Linux both, will give the portability that people need.

Look, I don't develop for either Windows nor Linux, but I did see a few ASP.NET projects, Windows Forms projects etc - and they're just fine. I don't get the point in dissing.NET - even Java fanatics admit it is a fine technology.
Now, back to the original point: You say that if someone has no option for portability, then he could possibly choose Linux because it might be the better system to develop his project on. Alright. However, you also say that if he DOES have an option portability, then he'll develop on Windows while knowing that Linux is always an option. But why would he pick Windows over Linux when he has the option to develop for either one and still keep the portability? It has to be because Windows is the better choice for his specific project. Otherwise, he'd pick Linux, wouldn't he? So the point is - you get a choice, and yeah, maybe most people will pick Windows over Linux, but the only reason for is that they have a staff which might be more experienced in Windows, or they need the Microsoft support, or they just don't know anything abotu Linux but think they might need to know in the future.
Why would they think about not being locked into Windows, if they want to develop ONLY for Windows?
Hell, if Windows is fine by them - why WOULD they develop for Linux?
If Linux is the better choice, and they have the option to choose it - you can be damn sure they will. If Windows is the better choice, do you expect them to use Linux just because it is "the right thing to do"?
You're probably right, we aren't there yet. Just like we aren't in the age of flying cars. A flying car just won't succeed nowadays.
Smell add-ons are like flying cars - in that we can create some in a really lame fashion at this point in time, and so no one will want it. This probably will change in the future as technology advances - just like the example of portable CD players.
It's not ironic, meaningful or in any way interesting that you, personally, do not think that the piece you quoted out of the article is "ironic, meaningful or in anyways interesting".
Computer games have never had any serious smell-generation technology, but imagine Doom 3 with the wretched smells of the places you visit and the creatures you fight, or Britney's Lap-Dance with the smell of cheap perfume. Awesome! Hardcore gamers aren't the biggest sub-group of gamers, nor are they the money makers. I agree it won't matter for deathmatch any time soon, though:)
No one even tried to define a standard, afaik. And even if someone did try to define a standard, they probably will fail at first - no one with interest in the definition of a standard will agree with anything but a standard that works for them. But eventually no one agreed on a standard for C, either - but here we are today. This will happen at some point.
True, and that's why this product will probably fail. They should've done this for an ice-cream shop or something, not for fine wines. That could actually work.

You say that as if other virus developers don't want their creation to succeed in the wild..:)
Some virus developers code better than other virus developers - they're just programmers after all.
Other virus developers don't care about an instance of their virus crashing that much. After all, with the highly-infectious viruses a reboot of the PC or a launch of a an infected program is all that is required for the virus to be right at it again.
And finally, some virus developers have used some tricks which make the new-in-XP vectored exception handling feature seem plain - like this virus developer's W32.Gemini ability to run as two instances which cover each other's back.
I have always wanted to write virus developer many times in one post, and have now succeeded.
