  1. Re:Video of Story on Felony For Refreshing a Web Page? · · Score: 0

Anyone notice how the reporter in the video hit F5 to demonstrate the attack, isn't that just as bad. All the kid did was ask people to go to a website, thats free speach as far as I know, if they are going to try and say it was just a mand DDoS, then the fact is that he didn't do anything, he just asked other to reload the page, they committed the crime . . .

  2. Re:Don't forget... on Intel and Laptop RAID? · · Score: 0

Everyone is complaining about battery life and performance, but the article is very vague. This "RAID" technology may be used for creating a Raid of 4GB micro drives. I don't know a lot about power consumption and the like, but maybe a 5 microdives consumes less power than a 20GB HDD. I would assume the access time would be much lower if the data were striped across these drives. To me there just does not seem to be enough evidence that Intel is going to want 2 drives in a laptop with data mirroring. In my experience this is not a backup solution in an office enviornment, so why should it be a backup solution for a mobile computer. Heck, most of the time that coporate laptops break is because someone spilled coffee on the keyboard, or dropped the laptop. anyway, just my 2 cents

  3. Is it really necessary on Google Releases GDS 2.0 · · Score: 0

Is the google toolbar really necessary? is it useful? To me it seems like a waste of screen real-estate. Do we need to always see a picture of our kitten on the side of the screen, or have our inbox constantly open? Personaly, I like Konfabulator or Dashboard because the widgets are easily available but not wasting valuable screen space. Maybe the google toolbar has this type of easy-hide easy-show functaionaly, but I have never been able to use it since I don't have a windows machine. I am not sure google is going in the right direction with this type of desktop search, but then again, I didn't just make $4 billion dollars.

What about copy machines, I think xerox should be fined because of people who use their copy machines to copy books and other material. Oh, and what about canon for making scanners that allow us to reproduce any document on our printer. And while we are pointing the finger at developers, we might as well also go after sony because of the VCR's they make that allow me to tape the NFL on Fox. (insert comment on how stupid this bill is)

  10. My Rack on Building Rackmount Cabinet for Home Use? · · Score: 1

I cam across a similar problem, and found many solutions. I was going to built my own rack, but was fortunate to get a hold of an old one. If you are going to build a cabinet first you need the rack rails. User dblittlea-w on e-mail sells quite a few different rails for cheap. This site has a good DIY areicle on how to build a rack cabinet. For guts I wanted a case that could hold a normal computer and normal power supply so I didn't have to buy an expensive PSU. A 2U (2 X 1 rack unit or 2 X 1.75") case is the smallest you can get in order to use a regular PSU. I found a case from Plinkusa.org for about $100 shipped. That includes a riser PCI riser card, which allows you to plug in your PCI cards at a 90 degree angle since they will not fit straight up. If you want an AGP riser card that is a little expensive. I picked up the rest from e-bay, inclusing a rack-mountable power strip, a 3com switch, and 2 25 port RJ45 patch paneel to keep everything simple and organized. I have a lot more info, so lemme know if you have any questions or want some pics.

  11. apple prices on Finding Holiday Discounts on iPods? · · Score: 1

I used to work for an apple reseller, and the problem is that the wholesale price on apple products is close to, or exactly the same, as the MSRP. Most other computer companies do this on their computers, the markup is normally around 1 or 2 percent. This is why the stores always try to sell a warranty, the warranty's an software are really where they make money. Apple can get away with selling the iPod for more thant the other HD based players because it is better in my opinion.
