    Seems that way to me, too.
    But maybe it's a good thing in that Apple won't have a leg to stand on.
    I don't care how strict the EULA is. No court is going to let them void thousands of warranties when all the action that was required was visiting a website or being redirected to one against the users will or knowledge.

    the real problem isn't that the programmers should make more, it is that the traders should make LESS.
    Wow. I'm a total stranger, but can I decide what you make? On a whim? Seems you don't have a problem doing it for others.

    Many many fine points about privacy and such, but the root of this case is AUDIO recording. Both parties not aware they're being recorded on audio? WIRETAPPING. The laws may be antiquated, but they're still on the books in many states. If that had been video, the cops might have been pissed, but they probably wouldn't have been able to do diddly about it. Maybe, MAYBE the charges can get thrown out on those grounds. Hope they do. But they're probably not abusing their power as much as we would like to think they are.

    Pretty much what I clicked to say... Stop threatening to arrest everyone that knows how to use a computer to download a movie or TV show from a foreign country. Stop bowing to the demands of the MPAA and regulating our consumer electronics to the level of "it can't have this type of output port" on it. Why develop skills and then use them for the government constantly telling us we're felons for hooking up a TiVo the wrong way.

    I'm sorry, but you guys are just saying, "leave the keys in the ignition as long as you have insurance." These people are THIEVES and scum of the earth. They need to get caught and get punished for stealing from us.

    I don't lock my phones for this reason. If my phone gets 'jacked', I WANT calls made so I can figure out who they're calling and either provide that information to any law enforcement willing to help me, or start calling them myself. (My account, my bill)

    I suggest calling the ISP yourself if you haven't already and BEG them to get you to their 2nd or 3rd level support guys that can get to someone that can at LEAST preserve the IP lease information for you. Just in case it takes a while to educate or motivate the cops.

    Don't forget those newer DECT 6.0 phones. They're cheap and they operate on the 1.9Ghz band. IIRC, that spectrum space was set aside for phones only because of this exact problem.

    Frankly, I think slashdot should have avoided this posting. If one less person gets blinded, because a /.er buys one, and blinds his sibling or himself, it would have been worth it. Eyesight is too precious to lose and these things are just waaay too easy to screw up with.

    I guess it's ICANN or ARIN that forces audits and demands accountability of usage of address space. Who are some of the big targets for recovery? Apple should be target numero uno with the entire 17.x.x.x class A. I know my college used a lot of 143.88.x.x as live ip's for every work station and wifi-connected laptop that happened to come along. No, that's not a lot, but just an example of the waste that goes on.
    (Now i'm going to be flamed by the "NAT is just a crappy hack/workaround" crowd.) Oh well.

    Ok, the subject is cheesy, but if my point were not to be assimilated, would that be fair?

    Anyway, it's not really my point. I had my question published a few weeks ago under a "Leaving the IT field" and there were more responses in that post than in the week preceding it...

    I've been doing some thinking that maybe a huge chunk of us unhappy IT workers are in need of a drastic lifestyle overhaul or at the very least some anti-anxiety or anti-depressant prescription.

    Poster: figure out what you want out of IT first. Bury yourself in computers? Solve puzzles? Get away from people?

    Interesting. I have considered teaching science or math (or god forbid, computers), but ONLY at a private school (I want to be sure I can beat the kids (kidding)) if I could stomach their religious leanings. But you don't seem to be pursuing that... Money? Or something else?

    I love Mac OS X. I will probably to continue to upgrade my iPhone until Android has lots more apps and better phones.
    I will continue to buy iMacs or Mac minis as my primary computer... HOWEVER, I hope that first the FCC and then the DOJ reams Apple a new one and then splits them up into at least 3 or 4 pieces.

    I really don't understand why it's so hard to burn a music CD of whatever you buy and then rip it to MP3. Bang. You now have non-DRM'd music, and a hard backup. It costs, what? 12 cents for the CD and takes less than 10 minutes on any modern computer?
    And if you don't want to do that, I know 2 or 3 apps on Mac OS X that will let me record whatever the computer is playing... Don't tell me there aren't windows apps that do that. I know people are going to come down on me like a bag of hammers saying how much they've got already, but I'm talking about on an as-you-go basis...
