  1. Re:Google has AFAIK a wonderful track record on Speculating About Gmail · · Score: 1, Insightful

I don't have a link, but I remember reading about Google sensoring. That searches from the canadian google would produce different results then the amircain one (true they are weighted diferent because of country, but it went beyond this). Google is the #1 search engine, and that is something to be feared. Think about it, MS had a decent track record for a while, and now they are #1, and they can do what ever they damn well please. I would like to see more balance, like dogpile which gets results from several engines so that it pretty much kills any sensoring.

if so many people are used to this design, and are comfortable, maybe this is the best way to do it. People don't want a steep learning curve. Once they become comfortable living in their little windows friendly linux world, some of those people can move on to a more "true linux" distro. Its a gate way, not every one has the abilty or time to drop everything and learn a new OS.

I have been diagnoed with ADHD. I never took a pill or had any treatment (to my knowlege). I'm 18 now and finnishing up my senior year in high-school. No pill would have given me the kind of results I got. I lived and learned through it. It was bumpy and took around 3 years to really get though it, but I have leared my weak points and how to deal with them and that is more vaulabe then any artificial treatment could do.

I am wondering if I am helping or hurting by just grabbing my ISOs and running? It allows the to become noticed by providing free software, but look at music downloads, would you download a song and then go pay for the album just to support the artist?

I agree, what is the point? A TI-89 goes for around $140. You can get a good handheld for like $200-$300 that does all of the things that TI users dream of by default. You are trying to put a square peg through a round hole with a doughnut. Wrong toll for the wrong problem. If you are going to do math, get a calculator, if you are going to do computing functions get a handheld.

  20. Color on Would Ansel Adams Have Gone Digital? · · Score: 1

Adams never really liked color as a medium, he did dabble in it, and I think his work was amazing, but he was always in favor of B&W. I think that with him thinking like that about color I don't think he would have felt too good about moving to a newer technology. Color was avaiable to him, but he didn't use it, I doubt he would use digital just because it is there, but I imaggine he would use it to some extent. I personally am looking for a Digital SLR only to replace the dark room for convience, chemicals aren't cheep. I would choose film over digital any day for an artistic project though, and I imagine Adams would feel somewhat the same.
