  1. Allow proprietary. on Should Linux Use Proprietary Drivers? · · Score: 1

Linux is becoming an operating system that is all about the user. Coming to an end are the days where you need to know how to use shell to use linux. In this world, waiting months and months (and sometimes forver) to get your hardware working is not really acceptable. Linux can not compete with other OS's as long as it is a huge hassle to get your hardware working. Allow proprietary drivers, I want my broadcom wireless mini PCI card working...

This is possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Coming from a supposed intellectual it's downright insulting. It's like the story of the patent official who resigned in the late 1800's because he said everything had been invented already.

The definition of an invention is something new. Obviously to make something new, you have to be creative. To say there will be no more "next big things" simply means you lack creativity.

I can think of a lot of next big thing - Personal Area Networks, Augmented Reality, Holographic displays, new forms of energy, just to name a few. These things are GOING to happen, it's just a matter of time.

We have more "next big things" than any other time in history.

My advice to you is to quit whining and do they job you agreed to do when you were hired for the amount of money you were promised.

This is what you're saying: "I'm paid a salary for my job, but really the salary is just to get me to come in every day and browse the net. If they want me to actually work, they're going to have to sweeten the deal." Blah on that.
