How exactly blocking Gmail et al. would make China become backward?

blocking google does not make them backwards... however, since they are backwards they block google... Being backwards is not the effect..is the cause.
mp3 player, of course a good rom would permit FLAC and other formats... however you would probably need a good capacity SD card (if the cell supports it)...just keep it in airplane mode to improve battery life.
Since all flights are always non-smoking the whole flight, it's about time they replace the (now) useless non-smoking signal with a no-electronics signal.

as a mater of fact, you could never do anything with linux except look at its source code. you need GNU/Linux to do any of the things you describe.

my university blocks out all torrent files and bit torrent traffic. At least all unencrypted files and traffic
