A few years ago, the US lengthened DST (start earlier, and end later). However, it was supposed to be temporary. There was a clause in the law that said after a few years, the Congressional Budget Office was supposed to study the savings, and revert to the original duration if there weren't any. Did the report ever happen?
A few years ago, I read an article where they talked about ISP vs OSP. An ISP was an Internet Service Provider. An OSP was an Online Service Provider (think AOL, Compuserve, or Prodigy).
It seems like ATT and BellSouth are talking about an OSP. They will have an online experience, with a gateway to the Internet. Fine with me, just don't call it "The Internet". Perhaps we need some truth in advertising rules: 1) how much bandwidth does your service have to other Internet providers? 2) do you prioritize packets? 3) do you block ports? 4) do you block addresses? 5) can you provide results of independent tests for RFC compliance?
New laws affecting gas and electric companies are forcing a split into energy production and energy delivery. Perhaps there needs to be a split between bandwidth providers and content providers.
A high end datacenter UPS will convert AC to DC, charge the UPS batteries, and then generate AC from the batteries. The generated AC is much cleaner - less spikes, more constant frequency. A friend of mine showed me some graphs from the power monitoring circuit on thier UPS: the input from the power company did not have constant voltage or frequency, the output from the UPS was clean and constant.
This sounds like a couple of students wired together some components for a design project, and then tried to come up with an application after the fact.
My school's department chairman went to school in New Zealand. He said many pubs had a beer chugging timer system (microswitch under a mat connected to a timer). So these guys just replaced the timer with a radio.
Because TV broadcasts over the "people's airwaves".
Cable TV subscribers often forget that many people in the US don't have cable, and rely on over the air broadcasts.
The FCC controls the process that TV stations follow to obtain a broascast license.
The bigger question is how did the FCC evolve from a technical organization to a decency enforcer?
I'm having a problem at work. My desktop machine was just refreshed (lease ended on old machine, so I was issued a new machine). It looks like the IT department has disabled USB devices under W2K (I'm guessing they're worried I might be too productive). If I plug in a jump drive, or a palm pilot, W2K doesn't sense it. But, if I reboot with the USB device plugged in, the BIOS will see it (and, if I remember correctly, W2K will see it after the reboot). Does anyone have an idea what I can do to enable the USB devices under W2K?
I think more of the outrage was directed towards Parry Aftab and her communications with Katie Jones. Let's hope that the new book title will put an end to any more demands from Ms. Aftab.
I do remember some commentary during earlier tours (sorry, I can't quote) saying that the French media was upset with Armstrong because he didn't spend much time doing interviews. But, I think that has changed in recent years.
Do all French citizens despise Americans, or is it just the subset labeled "idiots"?
"These EGNOS receivers were put in the car of the team director following the cyclists"
So really, they were monitoring the team cars, and not the riders. This sounds similar to the DARPA Grand Challenge, OnStar, etc.
OK, what's the definition of "limited resource computing device"?
From http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/evaluation/ sysreqs.asp Here's What You Need to Use Windows XP Professional: * PC with 300 megahertz or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233 MHz minimum required (single or dual processor system); * Intel Pentium/Celeron family, or AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended * 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features) * 1.5 gigabytes (GB) of available hard disk space * Super VGA (800 × 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor * CD-ROM or DVD drive * Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
I'm going to patent the "Method and system for accelerating and prioritizing an elevator". By repeatedly pressing the elevator call button, the elevator will accelerate and bypass other floors, allowing the operator of said button to board the elevator.

"ABC News reported Thursday that its correspondents had found counterfeit DVD copies of Revenge of the Sith selling in a store in New York City's Chinatown for $5 US. "
We better shut down New York City.

"According to Web site Waxy.org (http://www.waxy.org/ one print of "Revenge of the Sith" was leaked Wednesday before the film was even released in theatres. The movie was time-stamped, suggesting it may have come from within the industry rather than from someone who videotaped an advance screening."

Good News! I was afraid I was never going to hear the MIDI arrangement of "I Can't Dance" again. Oh...sorry. Wrong Genesis.

I wonder how many books will be sold to people (or libraries, schools, etc) who don't realize it's the same book.
No, I didn't know this. Can you quote a source?
