Since sports games are by far the most popular genre of video games for the casual player, it'd be more accurate to say "normal prisoners will not be affected."
I thought GTA was the end-all, be-all of gaming. Besides Planescape: Torment (which I accept as given), name a game that's better than GTA:SA. (I ask not because I expect an objective answer, but because I wish to see where your tastes in games lie.)
Halo, on the other hand, is overrated by just about anyone who hasn't played a good PC FPS. As for Madden, it's just a sports game; not particularly good, not particularly bad.
Wow, how many people is that that completely misinterpreted the parent post? Six? Seven?
For those who completely missed the point, what the parent was trying to say is that Acclaim and Argonaut are about to go out of business even though they were both quite successful five years ago.
Oh, I plan on waiting another month, until Christmas. I couldn't care less in a personal sense about not being able to play it now. But whether or not it's a problem for me personally is beside the point.
Constructive criticism requires two things; pointing out the flaws and offering possible solutions. Without the later, the entire concept of "constructive criticism" is moot
OK, here's an idea: Don't force online authentication for offline games.
I have to admit, that "constructive criticism" thing is pretty hard, but I managed it.
No, since this is a one time deal, it's like asking a ford dealer for the key to a car that is on the lot after you buy the thing.
Now imagine that there are hundreds of thousands of people trying to get their keys at the same time as you are. While this is happening, people are coming in, hotwiring the cars, and driving away without causing any alarm. Then the dealership suddenly closes permanently before you can get your key.
These same server problems affect every MMORPG on day 1. They affect every popular game that has online content (e.g., every Blizzard game).
The difference, of course, being that in those cases you only have to validate games that are online.
I'm waiting a few extra days before I buy the game, simply because I don't want that hassle.
And you don't think that this is an unnecessary hassle? Why should you have to wait a few days (or any amount of time at all excluding the few minutes of installation) to play a $50 game offline?
Madden, FIFA and all EA Sports is just the same, with different roosters.
Sorry, but the only people who say this honestly are the ones who've never played more than one edition of one of those titles for more than five minutes. That statement is simply false, especially if you expect me to agree that MP2 is all that different from MP1 even though the gameplay is (according to Gamespot) the same.
I agree that EA destroys other companies like Origin and Bullfrog and is generally a blight on the video game industry, but that's not relevant to this issue. When people complain about EA, it's almost always with reference to how Madden 2005 is the same as Madden 2004, not how all of the second-party titles EA touches turn into dust.
How do you know how many people I think have a double-standard concerning Nintendo and EA's respective innovativeness? Are you a psychic?
BTW, I'd like to see proof that I have a bias toward Microsoft. I think Halo is one of the most overrated games of the past five years, and a lot of that probably has to do with MS's effect on that game after Bungie was purchased. I didn't even buy an XBox until they went down in price a while ago.
That said, I might treat corporate gaming entities in general with a strong level of criticism whenever I believe it's merited, but I don't see how that's a bad thing.
One problem: Any game that requires the XBox Next PC to run would just be a PC game, and MS would get no licensing rights for it. (Unless MS uses its scary DRM powers, and even then there will probably be a real PC version that comes out concurrently.) I could easily see games requiring (or practically requiring) the HD, though. Aren't KOTOR's savegames absolutely humongous, for example?
That only rumored that there might be a PC version of the console, though. Nice to see that even the normal version will have an optional HD. That will make pirat^H^H^H^H^Hstoring savegames a lot simpler.
You mean that even though it took a lot of things out of context, it still ended up being surprisingly accurate?

Halo 2 Released

Once I got used to the controls, I preffered the controller to keyboard and mouse. The controller vibrates, gives you feedback, gives you analog controls to control your movement.
You forgot the word "poorly" at the end of that sentence there.
BTW, you can get mice that vibrate. If you have a girlfriend, you might be able to say that it's a "gift" for her, killing two birds with one stone.
...but these are the ancient mechanical machines that we've been using for decades. Little danger of those causing a big problem. Kind of goes to show how silly it is to compromise your electoral system in the name of progress.
I mean, seriously. This is humongous news. I would call it the news of the year so far.
Anyway, I think there will be two main responses to this tape:
1. Osama bin Laden is still alive, which means Bush didn't do the job we asked him to do, instead taking us into another war for questionable reasons. Americans should vote for Kerry.
2. Osama bin Laden knows about response #1, so the reason why he put out the tape now is so that Kerry will win the election. He wants Kerry to win the election because Kerry is a weak leader. Therefore, Americans should vote for Bush.
And, of course, there will be a smaller number of people who think that the tape is fake. It's not really surprising that all three viewpoints have already appeared on Slashdot.
And when viewing the opposition, all had increased blood flow in the region where humans consciously assert control over emotions suggesting the volunteers were actively attempting to dislike the opposition.
Wouldn't it make more sense to say that the volunteers were actively trying not to, say, angrily yell "BUSH LIED MILLIONS DIED" at the screen? Using this line of logic, you might as well say that Democrats had more amygdala activity then Republicans in response to the 9/11 ad because they were actively trying to be afraid of airplanes smashing into buildings.
I always thought that that dilemma was unconvincing. If I don't vote, I can still bitch about everyone else screwing the country up. Hell, in some cases I'd have more of a right to bitch than someone who did vote.

"Lifetime Achievement category - Shigeru Miyamoto, Nolan Bushnell. Favorite Game/Character - Halo, Link, Mario, Sonic The Hedgehog"
One of these things just doesn't belong...

Most offline games are playable on Day One even without patches. The ones that aren't are duly bashed into oblivion.

Of course, if you lost the bet then it wouldn't matter because you could get everything you wanted for the price of the duplication mechanism.

Everyone knows who "Snake" really is, there's no point in hiding it any more.

I have to wonder how many of the people who defend Nintendo for making sequels with incremental updates also attack EA for doing the same thing.
Rob
That's the only show worth watching on there now, right? I'm not missing anything, am I?

Rob (Apologies to George Carlin)
But that assumes that Democrats in urban areas actually have jobs.
Rob (Note to moderators: The above was a joke)
I was thinking along both lines, actually. Though I'm sure other websites have dug up more damning evidence against Kerry than this.
