    Doesn't it depend on your definition of evil? To a dedicated Statist, the Bill of Rights is "just a damned piece of paper" in which the rights of the Polity are fully enumerated - until exigencies make them inconvenient. The danger is that only dedicated Statists make it to the highest positions of Authority.

    The shareholders define "value" as the stock price at the end of the next reporting period. As soon as it's above their (buy-in price + comissions), they'll sell. Zero interest in where the stock will be five or ten years from now. Of course, I'm only talking about the big, institutional holders. The employees and 401k-holders will be farked.

    By the time you stream 4 or 5 simultaneous HD DVR streams plus a like number of active HD TVs, you're at a fair fraction of that 1GB. True, that's sproadic, but ATT is counting on nobody consuming anywhere near that capacity on an ongoing basis.

    Someone around here mentioned an attack on this supposed haven. The upshot was that in the first set of source, compromizing code was inserted and compiled, instructing the compiler to compile that bit, then remove it from the source. In subsequent compiles of the compiler, if the compromizing source was not found, the code would still be inserted. Anything compiled by that compiler would then be compromized, but no review of the source would reveal it - you would have to walk the binary.

    Terrorism is about as effective as torture because it is the tactic of impotence (to paraphrase somebody smrt). It gets you attention - mostly negative - but if your cause is just, some non-trrist face will be appointed your leader (Mandela, Gandhi) and you eventually win. That your local government is secular rather than something-ist is not a just cause. That your local government is a brutally repressive kleptocracy is.

The late 70s and early 80s saw Tbills paying upwards of 16%, but that meant mortgage rates were 18+. Bad for the people who work for a living, but no problem for the folks who can pay cash for the new villa.
