Don't even need a big business with domains and scripts to run.
People in our little hole in the wall get upset because shutdown loses the network mapping* that takes a manual login to remap each time. Just wait until the next round of computers and i actually require a real login and locked down boxes:(
We do manage to get half of them shut down at night and the others to stand-by which preserves that precious mapping....
4 out of 20 remain on. One of those could use an auto-off. Maybe i'll try the batch file above or something one of these days.
* to the vintage P3. Win XP will only auto map/login to ONE win98 share, so it forgets the second after shutdown:(
All fine and dandy..IF they had simplified tax rates enough for this to make sense. They haven't:(
WA state changed** they way they collect from in-state vendors to be in-sync with this scheme but haven't simplified anything for out-of-state vendors. There are still over 366 tax codes and rates for the state! The exemptions are a bit vague at times and no way to ask if XYZ should be taxed.
They need to make taxable vs nontaxable clear and easy before other states will willingly collect taxes for others. We sell medical supplies. Items that replace a body part are tax exempt. An internal catheter is taxfree while an external catheter is taxable (near as we can tell...like i said no one to ask for sure...INCLUDING A STATE TAX AUDITOR, they didn't know either). A leg bag for the catheter is probably taxfree. How about an extension tube for it? The drain tube? The shut-off clamp?
How about a kit containing those parts plus cleaning solution and towels? They seem to think it is PARTLY taxable !?!?! Good luck with that.
**previously in-state vendors had to pay tax based on where it was shipped FROM...most computer systems don't deal with that gracefully if you have multiple warehouses in the state. They are keyed for a code based on CUSTOMER location, most deal fine with multiple locations for the customer. Not to mention explaining to a customer why order A has a tax rate of 8.1% but order B has a rate of 8.7%. I suppose it is a start but....
Better stop now..in case no one guessed i have been filling out sales tax forms for 20 years now:(
oh well, at least they got it more accurate than WA. We don't have an income so there are no forms you get on which to declare use tax. So you have to hunt down a form to voluntarily pay (if you are not a business collecting sales tax)....surely that is working well, i wonder if it gets over 1% compliance from consumers;)
I hate videos like that. Fail. Otherwise they would show the result:(
That was as impressive as the monster truck show the other day. A big buildup deal about doing a backflip...well a backflip and a half from the look of the video before it cuts off. The wheels hit the ground i guess they counted it...even if it was vertical and still rotating backwards when they touch and stop the video:(
ok, how much did that nice predictable bill come to for 60 minutes?
Did you get it down to under $1.00 minute? This is good how again?
I would agree with the utility style billing if it wasn't so annoying also. We only paid $23.56 for power last month in 1 warehouse, $5 more than a year ago. That came out to $INFINITY per kilowatt-hour with ZERO useage:(
How about which utility model? Our water cost per gallon goes UP with more useage and our electricity cost goes DOWN with more useage.
Oh well, it is all a wash in the end. I am overpaying a 3rd party ISP so i don't have to overpay any of the big boys:(
Is a USB key any more reliable than a floppy? I have had rotten luck with them lasting any length of time:(
Is the floppy the only copy? Put one back on the HD perhaps? Copy to a USB HD drive. Burn to CD/DVD. not much better than floppy again:( Tape is still good longterm, a used tape drive perhaps(DDS4+controller=$100) Paper and a file cabinet. At least paper is still readable in 10 years.
all of the above?
Why online? Does he need to access remotely? You still need (at least) one of the above in case the online goes belly-up.
Frankly you lost me at the bar recommendation not cutting it also....
Glad i wasn't the only one that thought that. Definitely lamest list ever. The only cool one was the telnet address which doesn't remotely (ouch) qualify.
"Every time I turn on XYZ app it downloads updates automatically"
lol, i wish
The most hit site on our firewall in the office is the update site for one of our apps (and we have no restrictions on surfing here at work). The best part? The updater broke a couple updates ago because they no longer have anyone with access to that installer package or somesuch!
Only a handful of bytes each time...but it is 9 computers every hour...sigh
--- I need to use more bandwidth while i can i think;) My 3rd party ISP has no limits or anything on my vintage DSL line and tech support is the dude configuring the routers!
hmm, maybe i wasn't awake long enough to get scared but they were still operating on me. I remember asking if they are done yet, feeling them poking around still, saying i guess not...by then the anesthesiologist must have woke back up.
Typically big name films have release parties, etc with the stars or makers and some promo material. This way they can have them in both places much easier.
No idea if that's the reason in this particular case of course.
He also didn't provide an alternative...... that I've copyright infringed...... that I've infringed copyright upon...... that i copied without permission under questionable circumstances... ??? GP, please clarify the corrections needed to his sentence
Not that it matters...most of us aren't typing all that crap;p
Maybe we will just use the alternate definition...:)
It would open up every time i step outside to have a smoke since the parking space is a couple feet from my porch:( My sofa is only 10 feet or so away from the car outside depending on where is the driveway i park.
Now that i think about it, what about if i parked in the front lot at work...that is on the other side of this wall (tap, tap)...i could get a car a few feet away.
Is an old-school computer tech a personality disorder? Give me knobs and things please:)
Mine is actually a Wang clone of a Model M. Slightly lighter but beats the daylights out of our $3.99 OEM keyboards that come with the new computers. Others sure look at it funny with the blank spot where the windows key belongs:)
My other favorite is the keyboard for my 386, amazing it has lasted as long as the computer. Great feel and it has a + layout for the arrow keys with home in the middle.

Where have all the good times gone?

hmm, my mom is Swedish and can down a pot without batting an eye as could her dad.
I wonder if it applies to coffee temp also? She can pour it from the percolator into the cup and drink it black practically still boiling :)
in 75 comments and 2 linked articles do we learn the other 3 sites :(
in fact it seems only 1 person asked
I have a set of 4 matched Pentium 3 450's i need to dump :)
Seriously something like that should work. Need 2 workstations get 3 working and parts, if they are still running odds are as good as new stuff :(
Still using a P3-1000 and a travan-3 tape drive at work ourselves.

Yes, but they probably are not talking about my 8MB Hard Drive either are they?
Maybe the joke is the total number of achievements ;)
Depending on how i read it i have 5,7, or 11...thus it says 9 total :O
Days in a row must be continuous without closing it? Because there are 5 days in the workweek not 2 like it gave me...... ;)
I am sure we are all above that kind of behavior, aren't we?
We are gonna need a 'new thought of the day' or whatever the quotes at the bottom are called!!

Is a 4GB Bigfoot (5-1/4") Hard Disk the same as a stone obelisk?
Or should i mod my CD writer to write on stone? May need a little bigger PSU for that but upgrades are fun.....
Seriously tho, the older the better for long-term storage. Can apply this large scale or small...stone tablets or old disks.

Sterile swabs would be sterilized well after production, in fact, after the packaging is done.
*Runs off to calculate how many USB ports are needed to run his heating system*
Do the ISP have to smart about cutting off someone. I would disallow that IP.....of course should they recycle the modem.....
Is that having your cake and eating it too? Why someone would want a cake they couldn't eat has always been beyond me anyways ;)
