In any case, VU would have probably been glad to stop all the legal nonsense and allow Valve to unlock much earlier if they had agreed to share a fair portion from steam purchases (since they're not discounted, apparently) with VU. of course that won't happen
Guess what: the reason why there's no discount is because VU insisted on that.
Mozilla lets you create a socket using javascript, as long as the code has the correct privaleges. (Such as an extension). Just yesterday I successfully used it to connect to jabber.org.
The best way to update is to uninstall the existing instance, deleting the whole firefox dir and then install the new version.
Of course, since you're only downloading it to test bugs (right?) there's no reason to uninstall your old version; it should deal much better with installing over top of old versions now. And if it doesn't, that's a bug they need to know about.
One solution which is already in the works: requests to install XPI's will only trigger when the user actively clicks on something. For example, right now requests can be run onload, which is annoying and has a great danger of the user reflexively clicking yes.
Its true that games are taking an ever increasing amount of money and time.... but a higher and higher fraction of that time and money goes into artistic resource development (modeling, texturing, level design etc.) And that carries over from platform to platfrom...
At the same time, more and more game companies are liscencing engines rather than producing their own. If company X liscences ID's doom3 engine, then the vast majority of the work in producing a Linux port is already done. If it only takes them a fraction of the budget to produce a Linux ready game, they might as well do so, to pick up that small amount of extra revenue. It's not true quite yet, but you can bet that as game engines have longer lives[1], more will support Linux.
[1]do you really need graphics better than your eye can percieve?:P
I've noticed an annoying behavior in libraries/computer labs on campus: someone will be talking in their "quiet voice" to a friend, so as not to disturb those around them. Then their cell phone rings, they answer and immediately start talking loudly into it.
I guess whatever part of them learnt the social taboo of being quiet in such places hasn't had the chance to adapt to the technology? In any case, it still pisses me off.

Here is the doc I used. Xulplanet.com is pretty much the best resource for anything XUL.

Somewhat like this?

There is an application icon, but nothing for the window (by default).
If I recall correctly, that's only a problem in windows 98.

>>But, assuming he's not a terrorist, why did this student want to know about the underground tunnels?
Clearly, you've never been a college student.
Your idea is a wristwatch! It is also available in white! http://thesurrealist.co.uk/priorart
What is to prevent any email company from doing this? If you're going to be paranoid, at least be thoroughly paranoid.
