I read this earlier today, and his statement about aircraft with emotions, so that the plane itself would be more shit scared of crashing than the passengers...
...would we ever get any aircraft off the ground, if this was the case?
Control Tower: "Come on flight 3587f, you have to take off now"
flight 3587f: "Nope, I am staying RIGHT HERE, and nothing you can do will make me..."
"Why doesn't Microsoft have to pay back for all the damage done due to viruses, worms and trojans even though business/people pay a lot of money for the product that allows it to happen?"
The old chestnut, I know, but to simply and carry on the same isn't an excuse.
It is a terrible shame when quite unbelievable stuff goes on, and is treated as mundane.
To me, being born before the space race, man on the moon etc., this is still fascinating. Why current the current generation is interested in the slightest, I don't know.
What all these guys are doing was totally unthinkable 20 years ago.
Lets hope we will get another 20 years when the next generation filter through.
The problem is him and the rest of the gang then realised that it was software that ran the computer - not the hardware, and if you could capture that market, you got it made...
...and history proved them right.
But the oxymoron issue now is FOSS/OSS doing exactly the same thing to MS, and they can't compete against it (because it isn't an entity).
Huh. Being an English man living in England, I have to pay a mandatory LICENCE to the BBC every year even if I don't watch BBC TV (I only need to be proved to have a 'machine' that can receive the transmissions).
So, this is pretty crap - using rip-off UK to pay for it all.
... although it was a terrible unethical article (and I really felt for PJ yesterday), isn't getting rid of MOG a bit like sacking Ronald McDonald? Who are we all going to laugh at?
If it wasn't for the Post-it-note, how on EARTH would users remember their passwords! Got to be the best invention ever for Windows users in businesses everywhere!
So on top of patrol tax, car tax, MOT, and all the other taxes associated with running a car, all road users now have to find a £300.00 MS tax also... (and it will still crash, as the per the joke).
... and seen them all on TV from 1963ish onwards from behind the sofa, I don't care as LONG AS SWEET LITTLE BILLIE PIPER stays.
She is real cute, and the best Dr Who assistant ever.
From keeping a young boy 'shit scared behind the sofa' to keeping an older man watching, Whoo Whoooooo Whooo Whoooo (hum that last part) cares. Keep Billie!
You only need to look at time 'standards', which stemmed from the railways in the UK (how can you run a 'timetable' if all parts of the country run their own time?' - as an aside, railway timetables are worthless now, as the punctuality of UK trains are soul destorying if you need to use them commuting).
Then look at gun manufacture that introduced 'standards' to make parts that all fit no matter where that part was made.
Now look at the software state. Companies deliberately adopting the 'standard' that every agree on to make it all work, then once in common usage, change it slightly (privately) to break the standard and have their own monopoly.
I am sure the Rubic cube came about due to Mr. Rubic making/inventing a 'moving model' to show his students how atoms moved around in a bound molecule.
Any idea that someone thought of and implemented years ago that:
a) Microsoft found on the Internet
b) Microsoft starting using
c) Microsoft patents the idea (see 'Patent' in MSN)
d) Microsoft sues the pants of everybody using it.
I can't remember who said it, but "You put a supposedly intelligent person in front of a computer and they become an incompetent idiot".
At work I deal with some front line helpdesk stuff, and honestly sometimes you wonder what on earth these people do at home (I keep getting an error message! What does it say? I don't know... I don't understand computers) - like if a light bulb goes, do they sit in the dark until an electrician comes out to replace it?
... that it was lost? Google I suppose came to the rescue?

I guess Outlook use has dropped by 50% as sales for kosher r0lex w4tch3s has fallen too?

Does usage of GNU/Linux, Mac OS or another UNIX-derivative somehow increase brain memory capacity?
No, but said users have a bigger brain capacity to start with...
If it wasn't for the Post-it-note, how on EARTH would users remember their passwords! Got to be the best invention ever for Windows users in businesses everywhere!
... will be to actually download the MS Word 340MB 'hidden document' "Hello Hacker" file with out getting caught during the 5 hours or so required...

Naturally, this elevator's music will be composed entirely of Star Trek themes.
And once at the top, it will go *PING*

Throat cancer
He died of having AIDS. Cancer killed him. A bit on the end
Remember, Graham Chapman died of AIDS, so he knew he was a 'gonna' long before he died. Who wrote that sketch? ;)

'High on the list of features are security enhancements.
'Enhancements'? How can you 'enhance' no security to start with? 0 +0 = 0.

My comment in another place:
:)
Being a babe of 1959, I remember them all. I was dreading the new Dr. Who.
Well done to the BBC. Absolutely terrific. And Billie Piper has now gone up in my estimation from 10 to 10,000.
Superb.
Welcome back Dr. Who!!
Said the judge? Eh?
MS had the same eh?
