By "slight" I meant "severe." This is what's known as "sarcasm."
You also seem to misunderstand what a "pole" is. They go up and down. A horizontal "bar" is what you are thinking of. The article is NOT proposing putting bars or other actual barricades that have to be climbed over or crawled under around emergency exits... Just a simple vertical pole to encourage traffic to form a line, rather than a mob all trying to force their way through a door at once.
My score's stay above 830 and I haven't had a land-line in a decade. Proper management of your existing credit is how to improve your credit score. If the tiny (if it exists) hit for not having a land-line is what determines whether or not you can get credit, you've got far bigger problems than not having a land-line.
If you don't need more than 4GB of storage, on old Gigabyte i-RAM with the backup battery removed will do the trick. As soon as they unplug your computer or disconnect the drive, the contents of the RAM disk are gone without a trace. Of course, you'd also need to keep your computer on an UPS or you'd lose your data whenever the lights blinked.
I don't think any such case history is really needed. Think about it. If I design and build a machine with a gun, a motion detector, and servos to pivot and elevate, set it up in my ex-wife's front yard, and it shoots her, would you expect me to be immune from murder charges?
Yes, they would be liable for violating the law. If you create a system capable of operating independently of human control, you are still obligated to ensure that it will operate within the law.
Oh, yeah... And don't forget lateral G-forces in turns at 200mph+. That would be a pretty extreme engineering challenge to design a cup-holder that would automatically tilt not only forward and back, but also side to side in response to the car movements.
Or, you know, they could just recommend you use a lid.
Interesting. All three states I've lived in are on the list of those which do require 911 access from inactive landlines, but the list is certainly not all-inclusive.

There are slight differences between a pole near an open doorway and a series of locked gates that have to be broken down or climbed over.

"This new bogus number is because of GM working with/lobbying EPA. I can't believe EPA caved into such a content free meaningless number."
Why not? It's just one federal government agency working with another one!
Not even close...

"The only thing I can get at Radio Shack that I can't get anywhere else is ... OK I give up, what is it now?"
Quite useful analog SPL meters. Oh, wait.... They switched to crappy digital meters!
But... but... but... Think of the CHILDREN!!!
"That's a damn expensive way to fix problem(s) that likely didn't exist in the first place..."
Not really. I got a good deal on the chassis, and pulled the RAM out of my box of junk.
Plus, half the reason I did it this way was just to see how well it would work.
But damn, is it fast! Paging basically incurs no performance penalty at all.
I bought a 4GB Gigabyte iRAM box specifically for the swap file on an SSD system.
I think the UPS will cover that.
Well, duh. How else were they supposed to get Marty back to the future?
I HAVE done that. Unfortunately, it doesn't work. I just verified again that his name is unchecked, and yet, here I am seeing another of his turds.
I guess you believe that if you ignore a problem, it will go away.
kdawson is single-handedly bringing /. to the point that I don't even bother checking it every day anymore.
Suck a long, well thought-out and insightful post, that hardly anyone will ever read because you're an Anonymous Coward.
Sensationalist yet completely false headlines? What else do you expect from kdawson?

No cup holder? I'll pass.
That's no moon... That's a cattle station!
It depends on the tide!
The meteor bounced off his hand then made a foot-wide crater in the road? Wow! He's got tough hands!
Oh, wait... Maybe the injury to his hand was caused by a debris fragment from the road impact. That would actually make sense.
