I officially voyrs yesterday, after waiting in line for 6 hours (no joke).
Once I got to the machine, I noticed it was electronic (touch screen).
After I finished voting, it popped the card out, but the machine said it was still writing to the card.
I wonder if the card they gave me actually contains my vote now....:(
Well, I would think that having the largest number of CDs in stock (and thus catering to the largest customer base) would equate to more sales, and thus more money.
Trusted computing: when a corporation will sell you piece of software/hardware for your hard earned cash, and not have enough TRUST in you to use it properly.
Seems a little "guilty until proven innocent", eh?
We trade our money (which is ~time) to a corporation for their product. Then they try to tell us what we can/cannot do AFTER the transaction. Seems like feudalism is alive and well:/ Serf it up!
I am a complete n00b to the world outside of academia. I want to thank/. and all the contributors for enlightening me about such things. I will not buy Kodak products. I am also boycotting Creative, for their strong-arm tactics regarding Doom3's use of the 'Reverse Carmack'.
Before reading this site, I had no idea of software patents, and the concept of free (as in freedom) software.
Now regarding this article, I think it is pathetic what Kodak is doing. Stinks of SCO-like tactics. Stop worrying about a sheet of paper(patent) and start making a product that will 'wow' your customers. Why has business switched from satisfying customers to just 'making money'?
People turn to us geeks for tech advice, and it would be very easy for us to recommend 'NOT Kodak' and make some excuse that they are technically inferior. You have to keep your customers happy. You don't piss them off (which includes developers like myself) by suing someone(Sun) that has made a good technology(Java).
What's next, some distant relative of Ada Lovelace patenting the concept of algorithms?
Sure this applies in America, and more and more I wonder how whacked the laws are elsewhere....
It should be noted that the OpenGL engine in Unreal Tournament 2004 is piss poor compared to the DX engine.
I imagine that future versions will scrap OpenGL altogether.
What about programming certifications?
I know Sun offers different levels of certifications for Java programming. There is a similar one for Visual Studio as well.
How do employers/head hunters view the programming ones?
Ah I see, propaganda is not valid when coming from the extremist left. Only propaganda coming from the right is ok. You must have your TV running 24/7, eh?
I just finished Discrete Structures II. In this class we were to idealize a Turing machine, as a C program. We also went over Alan Turing's paper (the one linked in the article). My professor, who has been involved in cryptographic research for over 20 years, even he went so far as to say that Turing could be labeled a genius. Call me a dork, but I found the automatas to be one of the funnest parts of my CS education.
What a joke Windows is, all the man-hours devoted to its development, all the programmers who write/maintain the code for it. And it only takes the mind of an 18 year old BOY to bring their system to its knees. Wasn't the last MAJOR worm problem attributed to an overweight 18 year old? M$ should hire more fat 18 yearolds.....
How about the COPS in GTA3?;)
They seem an accurate portrayal of police in the US, especially now that we have the PATRIOT act. Do you ever see the cops hand you a warrant?

Ownage! What Mrs. Bill says is pure PR spin. Man, Fuck him (yes, with a capital F)!

Wal-Mart sells 1 out of every 5 retail CDs.
...Wal-Mart carries about 5,000 CDs.
:/
So the LARGEST CD vendor has the SMALLEST selection. Yeah, THAT makes sense
Mark my words: once someone invents a way to have ordinary looking house plants produce your narcotic of choice, the drug war will finally be over.

Mr. President, You often talk about how we must "stay the course" in Iraq. Tell me, did "staying the course" work for Vietnam?
You mean "unfortunately the naked pix of the wife where not on the card".
Pam Anderson and Tommy Lee tape, anyone?

My, you are harsh. Did mommy and daddy not hug you, when you were a child?
Its pretty simple to Cut and Paste....

Clinton's lies stained a dress, Bush's lies stained our nation.
As far as desktop 3d programs, I find that OpenGL simply produces a better visual quality than DirectX. Guess I am just picky like that :/
Who says you can't write the graphics engine in OpenGL, and all the other modules(music, netcode, etc) with DirectX ???
Drugs man, drugs. A geek leaves the house to consume drugs, and to dance away the day-to-day boredom.
