I can't believe no one has mentioned the arcane art of meditation.

A 20 minute session of "proper" meditation can reset your mind more than a good hour long nap.

There are similarities between lifting weights and meditating. When you bench your max amount, when you push with all your might, there is not a single thing on your mind except to move the bar away from you. It clears your mind. Meditation has the same effect on the mind....

Exercise is most certainly key to maintaining your health. Meditate as well to make your routine full circle :)

  9. Cynical..... on Grand Theft Auto Led Teen to Kill · · Score: 1

Why haven't movies taken the blame as much as video games? Remember how Terminator 2 made it 'funny' to shoot people, as long as there was 'zero casualties'?

I should voice my opinion, and state that this claim is absolutely perposterous.

I am looking past his emotional display (all the laughing interrupts), and trying to look at the cold hard facts.

This guy is a MS biggie, and goes on to state that he isn't a technical savvy person. I find that to be preposterous! MS has a lot of power in the corporate world, and here is a man stating that he "isn't too technical". What if a lawyer went on record saying "well I don't know the law too much"? Would you want that lawyer to represent you? Of course not, you want the people in power (the people whose salaries you pay) to know their product/service inside out and backwards. I'll let /. decide how a doctor with similar claims as Martin would last in the medical field.....

  11. From the limewire... on Grand Unified Theory of SIMD · · Score: 3, Interesting

As two of my professors have stated in class, SIMD and moreso parallel processing will require programmers to think in a fundamentally different way in order for multi-core/multi-processor to really take off.

This project may be a step in the right direction. Benchmarks show that SIMD such as SSE/2/3 only provide a marginal speed increase. And meanwhile, the massively parallel computations done on graphics cards dwarfs anything SIMD claims to produce.

Perhaps we will see GFX manufacturers selling their technology to the CPU makers.

I forget the specifics, but a new GFX card can perform somewhere around 35 GFLOPS, while a 3.4Ghz P4(executing SIMD code) can only produce around 5-6GFLOPS at best.

With projects like Brook GPU emerging, the division of CPU and GFX processor may be narrowed significantly.
