The "ice-caps" that have been seen from earth has actually been debated. They may have not been ice. Because there were other possibilities that might have given the impression that that was actually ice on the planet. I believe even the idea of other forms of crystals or even loose lighter sand had been suggested to was causing the appearance of ice on the planet.
It would be possible for a water based meteor to hit the surface and for a relativly short amount of time the liquid form of the water be converted to a gas form or a solid form. If that is the case there is less chance of more advanced life to be able to evolve in a shorter amount of time as compared with an "eon". Thus having a better chance of intellgent life on Mars, (or elsewhere in the universe.)
I don't think anyone was asking why it wouldn't have water for a long time but more in asking how long.
Yes, hotels, colleges, univeirsties and many companies use this method. A quick swip and you're in. This and a picture ID right on the card would give additional security to identify the doctor or aid. The card can be carried like any other card around the neck, in a pocket, on a key chain, as a badge... Since you're probably required to wear some sort of identification, using it to gain clearance should be an obvious choice.
I would say this method is probably the quickest and most secure.
Another method is a individual key code. A simple numeric code can be punched into a generic keypad.
These methods can be used for phyical access to rooms but can also be used for computer access to enable keyboards and mice.
I'm sure there are lots more good solutions out there. It just depends on your needs and how much you want to spend. I mean you could get a retina and a finger print scanner if you had the funds but I doubt that is worth your troubles.

Also there is populous where you act as god. Not to mention SimCity, SimEarth, SimLife... that you pretty much play god. (SimEarth you are basically Guai, (sp?).
There are also lots of games where daemons:) from hell are an active part of the game. I recall a friend playing a game where you control Hell or Heaven and basically run these two places like SimCity, where you would process souls, (don't recall the name, someone please reply with the name of the game.)
Windows??? That isn't even worth a reply. (I would much rather prefer a non MS solution since I would like to stay pure and inncocent.....errr..... kinda)
The real question is does it play those old games. I miss SimAnt, SimCity (the DOS Versions), Warcraft, Leisure Suite Larry, Space Quest, Heros Quest, Police Quest, Kings Quest and all the other old dos games of the time. Heaven forbid running these on MS-DOS.
Even if the computer was down 9 days out of the year, there is still vacation days that they don't use. Plus the fact that the computer at times does over time, (where a process is ran overnight or over the weekend.)
I for one welcome our new mechanical overlords...
(RTFA I don't need no stinking RTFA.)
I agree but in the past reuse was more common than recycle. The milk bottles were washed and reused and not pounded down and recycled. That was why it was required to replace the bottles if they were broken.
This raises another point that 20-30 ago people were more conservative and almost everything we take advantage today was treasured and used sparingly. It was in the 80's that people became more wasteful and everything had to be bigger and better and disposable. People seem to be stuck in that mentality.
Guy: I'm looking to get hooked up with some of the "good stuff". Ken sent me.
Clerk: Oh. *Looks around to make sure no one is listening and whispers* Go to the back behind the bookshelf there are stairs going down. Guy: Thanks. RIAA busted most music shops around here. I think you're that last around.

The real question is how will this affect the Bikini Bottom Ecosystem? What about Sponge Bob?
The OS.
Question: If that tree falls in the forest does it make a sound?
Answer: Yes, the sound would be. "Is our internet connection down?"
Forget xBox2 what about xBoxXP??? Ewww.... I feel so dirty.
