The matrix foreshadowed this. When Agent Smith is interrogating Morpheous, he said that the first Matrix was perfect and the system collapsed. Also Smith stated that Humans are like a virus that spreads. Whoa! that is deep.
Maybe it's just me, but it didn't really sit right with me that Yoda, "got busy" with the lightsaber. First of all getting all acrobatic just isn't his style.. not to mention hopping around like a mexican jumping bean.
I agree, Yoda should have never fought the way he did. I wanted to watch Ep.2 mainly for the reason to watch Yoda kick butt. Not as the jumping bean but more like Neo did with Agent Smith in the hallwall. The whole "I don't even have to look at you to fight you and I'll do it with one arm" was what I would expect from Yoda. Then there was Yoda unable to concentrate to levitate objects, even though he later trains Luke to concentrate on multiple objects. Definitely made Yoda to be weaker.
In the new movie Palpatine, does in fact use a light saber, I believe the saber being used is a red one, (as shown in the trailer,) I believe the seen is showing him strike down a foe with a deathblow, (S.L. Jackson?) Anything more than the single strike he would have to be very good with the saber or I will once again be disappointed.
What is really bugging me is with S. L. Jackson with a purple light saber? I would give a better explanation than he wanted a diffrent coloured light saber. The rules Lucus set was Blue and Green are for the Light-side and Red was for the dark-side. Then a new colour is introduced without a proper definition in the show? At least say that the Jedi Council elects a Jedi leader and the purple light sabre signifies this. Also give Palpatine another colour light saber. Yellow, (Gold), White, Orange... To signify his status.
Dream, dream, dream... only a few months left before Lucas wrecks the rest of my Star Wars dreams.
A movie, uncompressed full-resolution, is about 2TB. Squashing it onto a DVD does not equate to truckloads of paper, it's simply a different medium.
You obviously haven't tried sending a binary file directly to a printer.
Actually this happens more often than that. This is a screw you screw him situation. In a company I previously worked for we paid a company to advertise our site. They openly gave the "General" statistical clicks and refferals to our site. But this really was about it. We had over 30,000 clicks in the month they were to advertise for us and we paid them something like $10,000 for the month. Out of it we got zero sales and an empty wallet.
Now on the other side of the coin you have people using the ad and expect to get money from them. Due to saying that the statistics are not normal they will deny paying out. Hmm... Really you could simply go from client to advertiser and no expenses.
My main concern would be how protected would the computer be from the elements?
Here in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, there are some pretty heavy snow storms and it can get mighty cold. So if you use the garage you'll get the snow and all coming in. If the garage is in use then I would definitely make sure that the computer is not sitting on the floor, (snow and ice melting from the vehicle would form a nice puddle.)
Then there is the issue of dust and such. If you're using the garage, then the exhaust from the vehicle would also add to the wear and tear of computer.
If your garage is not actively being used then I would say that it is safe. The computer should in theory do better in the cold, (just as long as you don't have a lot of moisture. Water and computers don't mix.
There are big exceptions in the examples that you have pointed out. First you are confusing protecting the child from restricting the child. I agree that standing behind the child when they user the computer for 15min a day is extreme, however, a balance must be met. Issues like sexual predators and hate sites children may not fully understand. You stated
Quote:A boy wouldn't spend so much time looking at porn if he could spend time with a girlfriend. He wouldn't do drugs if he had a purpose in life; a purpose whose emergence you have prevented by trying to cram your own down his throat.
I find this as a prime example of parental neglect I have ever seen, why do you think issues of having kids put up websites insulting and attacking a classmates character is becoming an issue? Also you think peer pressure isn't real? If your child comes home drunk at age 13 you don't think they should be punished? Let them learn on their own? You'll be getting a drunk 13 year old every month or so because they'll think "hey my parents are cool I can drink when I want too". However if you give them crap and ground them they will at least know that is not tolerated with a loud and clear message.
"With great power, comes great responsability." -- Ben Parker from Spider-man. A child is simply not responsable enough to know the inns and outs of what is good / bad, safe / unsafe. You said
Quote:He wouldn't do drugs if he had other ways of experiencing pleasure; from learning, for instance: there's nothing like the feeling "I can do this!" "I know how!" "Wow! I finally understand!"; or from sports: "I am strong and agile!", "I am in control of my body!"; or from social interactions: "people like me.", "I am a nice person", "I like meeting people and making friends." He wouldn't smoke if he knew when to try to fit in and when not to.
Why do you think schools have programs to deal with peer pressure? Because there will be situations that drugs, alcohol, sex will present themselves to the child in their lives. Without the guidelines give by a parent then what is stopping a child from trying cocaine? All it takes is one sexual predator getting your 10 year old daughter to pose in front of the web cam and there they have their face for stalking or distributing, keeping a watchful eye on your child will help prevent this. Not monitoring your childs Internet behavior has far more risks than letting them grow and learn for thenselves.
Not much more learning can be done if your child is suffering from serious depression and going through councilling because they have naked pictures of themselves sent to their friends and family members. Nor will there be much learning if they are dead from suicide or other means.
The really depends on how much you use it. I've had both and with my printing needs the In-cartridge was better. The reason being is that we don't print on a regular basis.
The cartridge with only the ink replacement dried up during the month that we didn't print the ink dried. Now when we tried printing again and when we decided to fork over $30(CDN) for more ink, the printer still wouldn't print. It turned out that the print head ink dried in the print head. Asking repair shops and doing some googling the solution that we found was to soak the print head in water for 24-48 hours and to clean the head with rubbing alcohol. Still didn't work. We then asked the cost to replace the print head on the model... it turned out it would be cheaper to buy a new printer.
We now own a printer that replaces the print head with the ink. The cost is a little more expensive to replace the cartridge but at least we're keeping another additional rpinter out of our landfills.
What you have to keep in mind is that the ink will run out eventually and when doing so you have to keep in mind if you'll be replacing the ink right away or will it be a few days before you do.
Sweeet, with new CGI Mega Maid would be the bomb. But will they try to use the original cast were possible? (John Candy has passed on so Barf should be no longer be kept in the story... pay some respect to the guy.)
Will it be Lone Stars kids? What about Dark Helmet? Are they going to have Rick Moranis back as the Dark Lord?
Other than the glaring typo in the title.:P I have a few more things to add.
With exposing your child to the more advanced stuff I suggest that you let the child develop an interest in the stuff first. It's like forcing a child to play the piano. They'll hate it and won't develop the passion for it. Show them things they like and when ever possible show them how to do it.
I'm not talking about playing Warcraft III and then showing them how to code it. Start with web pages. Not with frontpage but with notepad or better yet VI, (it's amazing how quick they'll pick up how to use tools and the syntax hilighting will really help.) It's the concepts that you have to ease into their brain. Then move to JavaScript and basic. Then Java. Get the interest then the fundamentals.
There is also the simple calculator program and hangman text games that you can get them going on to understand loops and conditional statements.
Remember they are just kids and let them enjoy being a kid. Let them play. They have the rest of their lives to sit in front of the computer.
I have a 9 soon to be 10 year old son. He has been using the computer for almost 3 years now.
Initially we started him with "This is the computer, and here are the ONLY games you are allowed to play", (Reader Rabit and programs sold by his school.) He got to learn the comonents fo the computer like how to handle a CD and such. We had a Knoppix CD where he was able to load and play games on.
He then started learning about programs like paint and office applications for some of his school projects. So he was allowed to use those programs, since there was really no harm in doing so. (Notice that access to web content is still not permitted.)
We constantly made it known that he is not to open any programs that he was not allowed to. Even though he had access he was not *allowed* to use them.
Then his friends from school said that they were on MSN and Yahoo and Email and were able to visit sites advertised during his TV shows. So we sat him down and informed him that not everything on the Internet was for kids and that he is only allowed to access sites that we say are okay and that he is to make up a fake identity when he is told to give personal information, NEVER GIVE OUT REAL INFORMATION. The computer was always in an open room and we constantly checked up on his activities.
We follow the rule where anything new he does on the computer he has to okay-it with his mom and I. A few months ago he got his first hotmail account and got on MSN. Again another talk on how not everyone on the internet is a *good* person and a rule is that he is NOT ALLOWED TO GIVE OUT PERSONAL INFORMATION AND THAT HE IS ONLY ALLOWED TO MSN PEOPLE THAT HE GOT THEIR MSN IDs FACE TO FACE. We test him again and again and when he does do something wrong he is then corrected. His computer usage is a privledge and he remains under our watchful eyes while he is learning this relativly new frontier.
Remember that you will not always be ahead of your child and that you should teach him the proper methods and give them guidelines before you reach this point.
I honestly wonder if George really has any idea what he is doing to Star Wars. Everyone in there position should at very least read reviews from their fans. Is he really stuck in his own little world that all the changes and additions like Jar Jar are good things?
This is a bad time for Sci-Fi lovers.
The Fall of the Matrix - (IMHO I didn't think the set was all that bad. But most people are very disappointed with Reloaded and Revolutions.)
Star Trek Withers - Enterprise is dying a slow and painful death. I agree in Lavar Burton's suggestion and let Star Trek sit for a few years to allow a thrist for Star Trek re kindle, There was a/. post a few days ago on this.
Star Wars Total Power Currupts Totally - George has lost, (distorted,) his vision on how the Star Wars world was great. I fear he might regrete his actions a few years down the road and apply similar drastick changes to episodes 1, 2, & 3.
I guess there is always Transformers of my childhood.... oh wait.... what is this Beast Wars, Armmoda and Energon Transofrmers about?
Arg.... where the hell is my Cherry Flavored Suicide Pill?
But really how far are we from this? Think about how many companies are under the Coke stable and companies under the PepsiCo stable. If you dig into the chain each one has there exclusive contracts with KFC, TacoBell, McDonalds... Now throw into that the sponsorships with each with Sony, Nintendo, Macs, 7-11, Walmart, TimeAOLWarner... We really are not that far from having really two diffrent companies.
Actually to what I recall. In the movie Tron was an accounting program. Amazingly he was not the main character in the movie.
The matrix foreshadowed this. When Agent Smith is interrogating Morpheous, he said that the first Matrix was perfect and the system collapsed. Also Smith stated that Humans are like a virus that spreads. Whoa! that is deep.
