    Wrong, dipshit! I use plenty of FOSS software when I find it useful. I don't badmouth FOSS itself, but I don't have much love for guys like the FSF idiots pulling this stunt. FOSS can be good stuff, but too many people really get carried away, much like fanatics in any other group of people. But please, go ahead and label me an enemy if that makes you feel better.

    Apple is not going to change their minds over this. It's asinine to think so. You think Steve is going to give in to this kind of crap? If anything, Apple might add some security personnel to each store to get these guys out of here. It only makes the FSF guys look like asshats. And this is a FAR fucking cry from racist policies. The analogy falls apart regardless of who has control. You don't like Apple not being more open? Buy something else. It's that fucking simple. Don't tie up the Genius Bar because you don't like how a company that you can easily avoid isn't operating.

    I'm an Apple user and I'm all for FOSS when it's useful. I don't make it a point to use FOSS whenever possible because, quite frankly, a lot of it is crappy software with a ridiculously awful interface. I use open and closed source when either does the job better. I love Handbrake. I'm using some parts of FFMPEG for video transcoding. Firefox is pretty damn nice. And guess what? Closed source can work too. The FSF isn't going to win support from me or anyone else with retarded stunts like this. Neither will you acting like anyone who buys an Apple doesn't care about FOSS. That only makes YOU look like a jackass.

    Guess what? The vast majority of the public does not give a shit about what the FSF wants. Most people don't know what open source is or why they should care about it. Now, it would be great if people did care. So how do you get people to care? How do you show them that this stuff matters?

    If your answer was "Piss them all off by clogging up support when they want help with their computer", you're fucking WRONG.

    If your answer was "Constantly badger the tech support at company X when they have zero control over corporate policy", you're fucking WRONG.

    If your answer was "Make ourselves look like a bunch of immature jackasses who are just trying to make life harder for everyone else while having zero constructive impact", you're fucking WRONG.

    This will accomplish nothing other than making the FSF look like a bunch of stupid loons. Stallman may have a good track record, but this is a fucking miss no matter how you cut it. You don't get people on your side by pissing them off. Period.

    On top of that, the vast majority of the buying public DOES NOT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT FOSS. It would be nice if they did, but they don't. Geeks constantly make the mistake of thinking that everyone wants what they want, and guess what? Most don't. Get that through your thick skulls.

On top of that, he's encouraging people to book multiple appointments, so yes, he is advocating a DDoS of the Genius Bar. After a few rounds of people come through, the Geniuses are just going to tell them to piss off because they're sick of the bullshit questions.

    1. Leopard has altered the one setting for all folder views issue. No more getting different views for different folders. You set one and it sticks on all.

    2. I'm pretty sure the Migration Assistant in Leopard now supports network transfers as well. The thing is, while a lot of Macs have GigE, how many homebodies have a GigE network? Most people are still running 100mbps. In that case, Firewire is a much faster solution. Wireless migrations are excruciatingly slow unless you have a shiny new 802.11n network, and even then they're still pretty pokey. Still, I'm pretty sure that Leopard will let you do network transfers just fine. Time Machine solves your Aperature backup issue as well. You can back up to a network volume (including a Time Capsule) with it, which gets your whole drive, not just your Aperature files.

    3. Um, you must've bought a Mac several years ago (Are you using 10.3?), because the Mighty Mouse is 2-button configurable. And why don't you just plug in that USB mouse permanently? OS X can use any old 3 button mouse out of the box. I've never used a stock single-button mouse with a Mac if I could help it. A $2 mouse from Goodwill is fine as long as it's USB.

    And if you think the command line is that hard and registry tweaking is easy, I think it's safe to say you have a Windows bias. The Terminal is a POSIX standard command line, nearly identical to any other in the *nix world. It's easy to get to and you can do a multitude of things with it. This does require some expertise (that's why there's a man command), but hell, so does cleaning out that labyrinthine mess known as the registry. Normal people cannot do EITHER of those things. You've been on Windows for a long time and you know your way around. Do a little reading and you'll find you can do the same with OS X. At the core, it's just UNIX, and it's not hard at all to access that core. Both systems have the potential to be "easy" to mess with provided you know what you're doing.

    While you're right that it was for some specific operands, it was still a pretty glaring error that should never have made it into production. Worse still was Intel's response, which was a big "Meh, we'll replace your chip if you can show that you need one that works right." They went ahead and did a full replacement program after a big load of public outrage.

    Sheesh, who the hell said that about Moses Lake? It's NOT progressive, I can guarantee you that. There are some liberal folk, but it's mostly conservative. Strangely enough, the town has a very large Mormon population, too, probably at least 10-15%. And no, the quality of life is not that great. The lake may look pretty, but it stinks of goose shit, especially in the summer. There are plenty of shitty neighborhoods and the local government is fucking incompetent. Like weeds, sagebrush, cheatgrass that sticks in your socks like there's no tomorrow, and shitloads of pollinating kocia? Then it's the town for you! Either the guy who wrote that is insane or didn't spend much time there. Then again, they do have the Tree Cafe, which is some of the best damn Chinese food I've ever had.

    Um, that's because Cedega specializes in translation, much like WINE. For that to work, you need the same architecture. It's 100 times easier to port a game to Intel OS X because you can just use a specialized wrapper instead of porting the entire program to the PPC architecture. Sorry, but developers are taking the easier and cheaper route. It's not that your G5 is overlooked, it's that it's just too much work compared to an Intel Mac to port the damn software.
