  1. ITAR on Amazon Is Collecting Your Kindle Highlights & Notes · · Score: 1

What if you work in a classified area (e.g. the aerospace sector) and buy a book on Kalman Filtering (I believe these books still can't be sent to Russia) and take notes. Are you and Amazon both guilty of ITAR violation for passing controlled goods to their un-cleared server admins?

  3. I find it middle-ing at best on How Does a 9/80 Work Schedule Work Out? · · Score: 1

My company does 9/80 work weeks and I find the experience mixed. I tend to have about 6 'good' hours a day for solid engineering design and after that the ideas don't flow as well. 9/80 works when you have lots of paperwork to do (perfect for a government contractor) but doesn't do so well when you have actual design work. Doing errands on weekdays or making it to the gym are impossible unless you have an under half-hour commute. On the other hand, the every second friday off is nice. In summary, it only works if you can you work steadily and don't mind cramming all your errands into the weekend.

  5. Baseboard goodness on Pimping Out a New House · · Score: 1

Something I've desired to do for a long time is to put all the baseboards in the house on hinges. That way whenever a new cabling standard comes out its a simple matter of lifting up the hinges and putting new wires down. If plumbing were also run along the same lines it'll save money in renovations when something inevitably gives.

  6. Hinged Baseboard on Electronic Gadget Ideas for a New House? · · Score: 1

You should put in hinged baseboards along your room to allow the changing up of cables for whatever comes down the pipe. It'd also making plumbing, electrical work super easy..

  9. Ark Myth on Researchers To Climb Ararat To Seek Noah's Ark · · Score: 5, Informative

Something that I think gets lost frequently in the Noah's ark discussion is the fact that most relegions have a flood myth in one form or another. Off the top of my head I can recall a Roman myth, a Norse myth, a Chinese myth and a Native (or whatever the politically correct term is) myth that involve the Earth's destruction by a flood followed by a re-building by a man-woman team. Therefore any finding of a boat proves that something majorly wrong involving water and a boat happened early on in human history. We already knew that from geological surveys of the areas where early humans resided, any proof for or against the presence of the ark answers nothing one way or the other for or against the Judeo-Christian point of view.

  10. They've killed Asimov on I, Robot Trailer Available · · Score: 5, Insightful

The most distressing thing I see from this trailer is the fact that they have in one of their text snippets "Rules are made to be broken" or some equally stupid garbage. One of the things Asimov made perfectly clear in all his writings was the fact that whatever else the roboticists did they NEVER EVER EVER broke the 3 laws. It really pisses me off that there marketing automatons have the nerve to include the phrase "as suggested by the writings of Issac Asimov". He suggested no such thing!
