let me just say first that i think that is a very cool idea. however, im not sure i would trust the plumbing on that one. if something breaks, you have a nice heat-pipe-turned-water-channel straight down to your board. if youve got the extra money and the gfi your other reply-er suggested, its worth a shot. maybe extreme overclocking of an older machine would even make the project cooler...ahem...so to speak.
whoa, there. so i didnt check the page source, relax, yo. what difference does it make that he used spaces? i politely pointed out that spacing is important to make posts easy to read. the fact that his were indented and the quotes were not just makes it less obvious. its a simple defacto standard of message boards, but not everyone may know that. why did you get so bent out of shape over the fact that i said he used the blockquote tags instead of spaces? what difference does it make? i got my point (politely) across
just a note, the blockquote tags are for the quotes, so you dont need the quotation marks to see what the parent posted. your post was extremely difficult to read with your replies in blockquotes. a nitpick, probably, but just to ease reading of your posts... indent theirs and italicize them if you want, but leave yours at the left. thanks
i must reallly be screwing things up on this one. im a hot rodder, overclocker(added an old cpu fan to my vid card just last night), and im a married man that... wait... actually gets laid.
on the other hand, nobody here has any reason to believe any of that, so... whatever, hehe
i almost totally agree with your sarcastic remark, but i must argue on one small point: this is not limited to imports. here in oklahoma, the rednecks feel the same way about their trucks. loud != fast
as should be obvious by my username, im a muscle car guy at heart. however, youve gotta step into at least this decade. check out this 8 second awd dsm. in my opinion, 8 seconds on 2.0L and 37(!)psi is a hot rod in the true sense of the word. do you not realize that in the 50's, all the model-a guys and the 30's coupe guys hated the new-fangled chevy and ford v8s in those new hightech 50's machines. "kids these days," they said.
im sure you and i can both agree that most import guys are terrible representatives of our sport, but to say that 4 cylinders cannot be hot rods is ignorant. is it defined by the number of cylinders, where they are made, the technology, what?
hehe... wait, wait, wait. you think it's cheaper to build a honda than a nova? i buy amd's because theyre cheaper and more intelligent. hey, that's the same reason i buy old hot rods, too. well, at least the cheaper part. i can buy a $1k nova(or whatever) and dump $3k into it to put it into the 12's. try THAT with a honda without going back to the 80's and abandoning modern well-engineered honda motors.
upon second read of your post, you admit that a boosted 2.2 vtec cant compete with a 460. it's also going to cost a hell of a lot more to build the honda motor. 4cylinders can be plenty fast, but it takes HUGE amounts of money to do it, especially with hondas. ill grant a few exceptions, of course, such as the dsm's and some of those older boosted fords that can be stuck into pintos.
i woudl also completely reverse your additional overclocker/hotrodder divisions. import guys are the ones that would spend a lot of money on an intel chip that is hyped up and expensive to build. the hot rodder is going to do the research and know that hte amd chip can be overclocked for higher bang for the buck.
let me just add that this is just my opinion, not flamebait. i welcome any responses that make valid points. im not trying to piss of import guys or intel guys, or you, hehe.
Of course they will. And resistance is futile. All AOL's Base Are Belong to MSN.
agreed
For us Linux AIM users, heh, better hope Jabber spreads....
why? Gaim does AIM, MSN, and a few others, why would i HAVE to rely on jabber spreading? im not arguing superiority, just questioning the absolute need for jabber if aim and msn messenger merge.
got any evidence that AIM is spyware? i dont get any spam from them at all, either. no unsolicoted IM's, email, nothing. not calling you a liar, just asking for proof.
some people are also scared of amd being cheap. my brother was convinced that there were some things his amd 600 wasnt compatible with just because it was an amd. i tried to convice him otherwise and, well, he now owns a 3.whatever dell with hyperthreading.
slightly OT, but 'Buzzword Bufoonery' is, in itself, a fantastic sort of anti-buzzword buzzword that i shall use from now on. a fictitious cookie for you if you invented that.
Isn't that what those Nextel "walkie-talkie" phones are, basically? Carrying on a conversation over a speaker phone?
yeah, except they are only half-duplex. my phone, otoh, has this new FULL-duplex capability! imagine that! it can even do it without those little chirps you speak so fondly of
that is exactly what i was just thinking. it would seem to me that without an earpiece of some sort, this would get chaotic. it sounds like a great idea, ideed, but i dont want to hear both sides of every conversation. its bad enough when one person is talking extremly loudly and obnoxiously on a regular cell phone, but if theyve got their speaker turned up while using these things, the other person is loud and obnoxious as well.
i cant speak for new linux users as i had debian(gnome 1.4 was MAD ugly and slow) inflicted on me for my first distro, but i really like slack now. it was very easy to install and seems really snappy. i got turned off of gnome by aformentioned v1.4, but this kde 3.1 even looks and feels great. ive never used suse, but slack even seems pretty good for first timers.
actually, my major recommendation would be to get him a live eval of something or several things first, for that matter. i would imagine they would have most of the functionality in order for him to see what they are like. remind him that they will be faster with an install, however.
that sounds like an interesting idea. i havent tried suse mainly because i hate ftp installs. linux always has trouble with my network cards(older suse ftp and debian. cmon, is dlink that wierd?).
little OT, but how is that installing knoppix working out for you? is it really much like debian anymore?
the problem with pronouncing it correctly is that nobody will know what im talking about. it's suzie here in oklahoma(yeah, yeah, the grammar capital of the world, it's not).
on another note, ive always pronounced(and always heard it that way, too) linux with a short 'i' instead of like the name 'linus'. why is that?
indeed, an excellent idea. i hadnt thought of that. as complicated as dashboard displays are nowadays, surely this woudlnt be difficult to jsut have an lcd up there. seems like a natural next step, but im not sure when it would happen. i dont drive a lot of new cars, but it seems viable in the near future at least.
Why not put up some diagnostic info on the screen? "ABS Failure in Braking System", "O2 Sensor clogged", "MG2 - Generator Failure", etc? Maybe even a nice like "star trekky" diagram pointing to the component, or the area of the car the problem is located at.
i dont know, im not convinced that the average user would want that. i sure as hell would love that on all of my cars, but i dont think all of us here at slashdot are average drivers. we would WANT our car to display some hellacious message about injectors not working causing a lean condition, but i dont think my mom woudl like that at all. just my opinion, but i think most people would rather not know anything about their car and just take it to somebody who does when something goes wrong. i know those people are in a minority here, but i think not in the whole US population.
haha, very nice. the turning into the wrong lane bit is prevalent in my little college town as well. occasionally, i make sure they can see me and MAKE them turn into the proper lane when i am turning right. i've always wondered if that constituted "not yielding" like i am supposed to since they have the arrow to turn left...
what are you talking about? i use slack at home, debian/win2k at work and have never had that problem on any windows machine ive ever used. rant if you must, but at least stick to the facts.
it looks like its not working. perhaps its because im lazy? i dunno, maybe my apostrophe key is broken. i am just too lazy for capitalization or punctuation. i work hard enough to make reasonably coherent arguments with somewhat accurate grammar, its just too much to ask for me to use apostrophes or capitalize.
having said all that, id throw you a funny point if i could:-)

what does bush have to do with microsoft? i wasnt aware that he had any opinions towards/against old billy boy.
got any evidence that AIM is spyware? i dont get any spam from them at all, either. no unsolicoted IM's, email, nothing. not calling you a liar, just asking for proof.
that is what i'll take for an answer. i was wondering about that, thanks.

Seuss would be pronounced with a soft 's' to start. ssooss, if you will. wouldnt it be more of a Zoozeh sort of sound in German?
