i like shell scripting. i dont know why, it just seems more enjoyable than programming big apps in java or c++. maybe its just the size, they are done sooner. i use a script that upon booting writes the new IP on a dynamic IP machine to the httpd.conf file, i thought that was kinda cool. nothign complicated, just necessary.
judging by the article, i think the turtle and hare stuff refers to a sort of market share measurement. seems to me the idea is that microsoft is slowly (but steadily and increasinly) losing server share to linux. market share, not development/innovation.
this is often the case with things. they come out and then they come out in a better version. this is shortly followed by them coming out not much better, but much prettier. i have absolutely no idea how they are selling(not well, i would assume), but ive seen "vinyl" cdrs at walmart. this is just another gimmick, but its not the first time and it wont be the last.
that being said, this idea seems much cooler to me. if its still easy to see and not much more money, i might give it a shot. oh, it woudl have to burn regular cdrs as well as the special ones, i didnt see that in the article.
but the fact that there are many distros makes me believe that this wont happen. imho, if linux became as popular as windows, youd have distros that were like you suggest, but youd also have ones that stay true to the cause. we would end up with several more apps to use natively on our distros that did not become spy/bug/bloatware. thats the point, you have a choice: not even between windows and linux, but it a couple distros go crazy like you say, there are 1000's more that probably wont.
90%? im have some trouble believing that... id believe 90% of the emissions or fuel efficiency improvements are from electronics, but not hp. you mean to tell me that exhaust, head, cam, and intake design have only been responsible for 10% of the improvements? BS
The car should be programmed to discover any problems under the bonnet, then send a message to the garage to let them know.
Well that's something I don't particularly care for...
The mechanics would then contact the women directly to invite them over....too easy...:)
suddenly shops have a use for script kiddies! all they need is to hack the car so it will dial home more frequently and theyve made lots more money
the resale of your cougar is crap, tho. the thing with hondas is that their resale is very high. ive seen less than average '91 civics go for much more than other similar year cars simply because they are hondas.
what does the fact that it started 4 years ago have to do with how exciting it is now? does the fact that it sucked for him to do it and its easy for me to burn it from an iso make it less useful?
im really not following your point at all. you know, these computer things i hear about were invented a long time ago. thus, i really cant get too excited about these new dual 64bit amd boards.
note to parent and mods: im not pissed, just confused. this isnt a flame. step slowly away from the mod points.
i know it was a joke, but its kinda strange to me. people use "burn" for everything nowadays. we do some dv and dvd work and my boss actually refers to "burning" a vhs tape
i agree completely(talk to my isp, they know) about trying lots of different distros. i also agree with another reply to yours that said give it a little longer than a couple days.
i have one small thing to add about what youve said, however. not a correction, just an addition. something a new linux user need to think about is the speed of the machine used for testing versus that of the machine it will be used on. if you are blessed enough to have a spare machine that is up to standards, then by all means, do it that way. however, if your spare machine is a little older like my pII450, some distros may behave a little worse on it than they would on your main rig. mandrake with kde(i just took the defaults, havent looked into any lighter display or window managers, yet) is slow on the aformentioned 450. its great on my 1GHz amd, however.
all that to say that make sure you understand the performance differences between the distros and the machine you test on vs the one you plan to use it on for real.
i move too little as it is. do i really want to move even LESS? being a computer jockey hasnt made it easy on me for staying fit already... this is all i need
granted, there is not apt-get goodness, but it wasnt that hard to get it and netbeans rolling on my linux box. for me, java is plenty free if i can acquire it for free and install with minimal effort. just my.02
i have a win2k box that i use for a tv with an older ati card. there is one patch that broke the tuner install and the software i used to capture/watch tv wouldnt even acknowledge the existence of a tuner card after that. also, on my xp box, there is an updated sound card driver that makes the card not work at all.
ill definitely say that they start out on the wrong foot with me anytime someone is a self-proclaimed expert. however, did anybody do any research back int 1979? you said you saw some cultural trends, but maybe this guy is the first to actually study it at any length. im not saying its not all crap, but do you know of anybody else that has done any amount of actual research on the matter?

60GB is old? im feeling old now and im still a senior in cs...
i remember the day when my dads 386 with a 40MB seemed huge. wait... i didnt even know what a MB was at the time. nevermind.

wine and crossover are different.
i can afford wine but not crossover

pissy guy
maybe im just a immature dork(wait...this is /.), but to me, homestarrunner.com makes all the other flash sites that are crap worthwhile

i, for one, do not wish to see any actors do that. actresses, now thats a different story
Dear Mrs Svensson,
