    I'm curious what effect this will have on the support website. I thought IBM did a great job of fixing their driver site in the last couple years.

    I only buy thinkpads for my own use... I like em better than anything else and they've been very stable and durable for me.

    Or just formatting and reinstalling behind a firewall till all the patches are in?

    This is my number one job now but I'm not as busy as you are.. ;-(

    Anyway, Free is the best: Ad-aware for spyware
    AVG for viruses
    Sygate Personal Firewall (surprising to see how many microsoft services want to go online.)
    Netscape (built in email and popup stopping)
    MS Patches.. this really gets done first.

    As long as the customers LEAVE THE SOFTWARE INSTALLED it works.

    I actually think they're going to do this with Longhorn. Give the cd's away by the millions. BUT, you have to activate it every year for $49.99 or your computer locks up.

    They floated this trail baloon with XP and it was shot down handily. I honestly think it won't be long before yearly subscription happens. They have to find some way of keeping that revenue stream.

    If you do contract work you're effectively self-employed. I have an almost impossible time working for an employer anymore. Once the genie is out of the bottle, and you see and enjoy all the benefits of self-employed income.. it's damn near impossible being happy in a day job again.

    I quit a $21 an hour welding job to start a computer shop. That was 5 years ago. The mix of responsibility and freedom can never be matched at a day job. I may not make as much money, but sometimes I can make a months wages in a couple days. Sometimes there is also a lot of free time for personal projects. Good luck!

    I'm canadian. I think this was during the cold war and the states were making sure the russians weren't up there in the far north. Canada didn't have a single submarine capable of patrolling our own territory.

    I guess my point was the pitiful state of the canadian armed forces. We don't have an army but like to pretend otherwise. We also have a bunch of loud mouth liberals who like to bash america, but guess who they go running to if we get into trouble?

    This is like the old Canadian Prime Minister Mulroney calling Reagan when the states had a submarine under our territory up north. We did not have any vehicle to investigate so the conversations went like this:

    Mulroney: "I don't like you guys playing in our backyard. I want you to leave."

    Reagan: "well, I can't do that Brian."

    Mulroney: "I don't like you guys playing in our backyard. I want you to leave."

    Reagan: "well, I can't do that Brian. Sorry, it's in the interest of National Security."

    Mulroney: "Look, if you don't take your submaries from our territory... I'm just gonna have to call you again... and next time I'm gonna call COLLECT!"

    I upgrade to about the middle of the road when the prices drop. I can get asus boards for under $100 canadian and AMD 2400+ were only $80 can retail.

    The new stuff is always way overpriced, and will come down just before it goes out of production.

    I use mostly amd xp2400+ cpus in asus boards with Nvidia 5200's or ati 9200's. Does everything I need them to do.

    Games are the NUMBER ONE reason more people don't switch to linux. I don't think they like bringing their machines in to get reformatted every 3 months... but they like their games more.

    Port the latest games to linux, and the home users will use it. Make a decent accounting program, and a lot of buisnesses would too.

    Xandros has a neat product here though they are starting to close things up the same as Microsoft.

    It's interesting to see some of the work going on. It's based on debian but you can't just install programs from the deb sources anymore.

    Guess you've never had to trudge to the post office in the middle of winter to pay $3 or more for a money order to send to some guy halfway across the country?

    Paypal saves time on my end and I'm very happy to use it. I've only sold a couple things and it's alos nice to get paid right away.

    Been there. Then installed the service pack 2 and killed the whole machine. Then the damn "restore" cd's don't work and you have to hunt for a disk to reinstall. Then it takes 2 or 3 tries to activate it because the serial doesn't match the original disk... you can then type in the real serial and it works fine.. I hate ms.

    I have an old Matrox 32 meg dual head hooked up to two ibm 17" for a studio. Took a bit of tweaking to get the refresh rates right, but it works great.

    This application of dual monitors rocks! I can have the main song in the first window and the mixer in the second. I don't think it would be very functional with just one monitor now.

    I can still buy Athlon T-bred cores up to 3000+ though they are being phased out.

    The sempron (does it fill your hdd with pr0n?) is (according to my wholesaler)the replacement for the durons.

    A sempron 2400+ runs at the same clock rate as an Athlon 2000+ (1667) but can be changed to 2000 to be the same as Athlon 2400+ On chip cache is the same (256) and they seem to run almost the same speed. They were even the same price when they came out for me about a month ago.

    This is Prophesy, not history. Christians will be killed, by the thousands, in "free" America because they know who the beast is and what he's up to. I've been watching this unfold for over 20 years. If the gov't came right out and said everyone needs this rfid chip, people would freak. They are floating trial balloons to get us used to the idea. Then when they come out with all these "befefits" Christians will look like "right wing nut jobs" to the rest of the world. You get what you've seen in the comments of this post... it's only a tag, nothin to be afraid of yada yada.

    Many things have to be in place for this prophesy to be fufilled. The temple must be built in Jerusalem again and the blood sacrifices must be started again. Since this is where the beast will claim to be God. The stock market and all "money" could be destroyed in a day a la 1929. It really is a house of cards waiting for the right time. What would happen if the arabs decided that they wanted their cash in Gold from the U.S.?
