    Chinook winds are awesome. I was out there last week and just missed the +16 day the south had. Was about -30 when I landed and about +10 when I left Tuesday.

    I'm moving back out in the spring. ;-)

    That's what you should do for a living. I'd probably still be playing with computers. There is so much more to life than money and stuff.

    They are talking about putting Chinese in jail. Big Brother already lives on this side of the pond.

    Bush was up here in Canada last month (i think) twisting the arms of the Canadian Government to stop the sale of drugs online. Our gov't agreed and shut down a bunch of retailers losing about 4500 jobs in the process. So much for being an autonomous nation.

    Coincidentally, the very next day, our beef was now allowed back over the border into the U.S. Even when they found ANOTHER case of BSE the very next day. hmmm. One was enough to kill our industry last year.. but this one's ok? I smell a rat.

    As our now dead ex-Prime Minister Trudeau used to say, "Living next to America is like sleeping with an elephant."

    The machine will crash at random. You can change ram, cards, chips and it will still crash often. (not just windows )You will see the seeping caps inside.

    Dead board. I've seen a few ibms and no-name boards with these. Most of the affected capacitors seem to have an x on the top of them. They split apart at the seams and ooze all over the board.

    please.. I moved 5 computers out of my house and my power bill dropped about $12 a month. One was a server with 3 ps and 12 scsi drives.

    They really don't use a lot of power. Now if you have 5 tvs running at the same time.. well.. ;-)

    Same here. I've either screwed up, or coundn't get working at least 10 linux distros. I like Linux, I like where it's headed... but it's still way too damn easy to install windows. The only distro I've personally installed that found ALL my hardware was Xandros. They now seem to be going the Microsoft lockout way though ;-(. I do have SME server running on my server though and that is one incredible piece of software.

    I have an AMD 64bit 3000+ at home and I can install windows 98 (yes windows 98) in under 8 minutes with all the reboots. 20 mins later and all the drivers are in. Then I burn an image so the next time (usually every couple years) is about 10 minutes total.

    With this os I can load Photoshop 6 in about 3 seconds.

    I could not believe how stupid people were with home computers. Was I the only one that actually set my clock ahead to see if anything would go wrong?

    In 10 years of playing with these infernal machines, I've seen 2 that were y2k incompatible. They were so slow they should have been scrapped anyway. I think it was all a scam.

    That's exactly why I have win 98 on my Athlon64 3000.

    This thing is incredibly fast. I can load Photoshop 6 from a cold boot in about 3 or 4 seconds.

    I hate wating.

    Canada.. Friday and Saturday nights are the worst and the MOST expensive is Silver City.

    I just checked their websites and they say that prices are only 9 and $10. I may be on drugs, but I remember paying a lot more than that...

    ...I was wrong, the last time I also took my 5 year old and it was closer to $30 for us. It's still bloody expensive when I remember the days of 2 buck Tuesdays.

    FWIW $10 american was like $14 Canadian.. plus taxes. Ouch!

    That's so sad.. for me to take my wife to a movie it can cost us almost $100 if we go out to dinner. $20 for the babysitter, 40 - 50 for supper and 40 to see the movie. I'll eat real food BEFORE the movie. I'm certainly not paying $20 for pop and popcorn.

    No wonder I only see a few a year in a theatre.

    I agree that it's a horrible format, but how can we get users to change to any open format? We have a hard enough time just getting them to change browsers.

    I think the real point should have been forcing microsoft to open up the .doc and .xls formats. That would have done more good than anything else that came from the lame doj hearings.

    Word is the defacto standard now. Open it up and let other companies make programs to use it. As we speak, office 2003 is incompatible with older versions to once again lock people into microsoft software.. this just sucks.

    Cool, be interesting to see the new flags. I love Guided Missle... but hate geno.. ;-)

    Yes the graphics aren't the greatest.. and I needed a good video card to bump them up.(nvidia 5200 works fine on windoze)

    The gameplay is awesome. I've been playing this for a couple years now and I love it. Trying to find babels low lag server today... to no avail. That one is my absolute favourite map and it's a ctf. It works through my firewall with multiple hosts inside too.. Kinda fun chasing my wife around a map.. she doesn't know the game well and doesn't know about the hunt key ;-)

    Same here though I don't feel dirty doing it.. I'm doing them a favour. Better to pay me to clean up their machine than to go and buy a new one because of software issues.

    Most times I've only had to see people once. It's very disheartening though, when two weeks later, the same customer comes back, riddled with viruses and spyware.

    Me: "where's the programs I installed? Sygate? Ad-aware? Avg?"

    Customer: "umm, I guess we uninstalled them.. kazaa wasn't working right."

    Me: "fine, $60, we'll try again."

    I don't think I'm long for this game anymore. Users can be very draining on your spirit. Really bugs me that I've had no problems with my 10 machines in 7 years or so.

    Right, but I noticed in Netscape 7.2 on win98 that it was trying to get data from secunia (in the status bar).

    Also, I know my bank doesn't use pop-ups on their site so I'm not gonna worry.. but for the clueless masses... one more reason to throw out their computer.. will this shit ever end? Seems this is all thats goin on anymore. Spyware, phising, spam, nigerian scams.. I hope something gets done about this or we're in real danger of making the web unusable.

    Whatever happened to the good ol days of winamp 1, cute ftp, websites and no virus scanner?
