Sometimes (10% of the time?) I just get a black screen on wake and have to reboot
Any chance you ran something (game, iTunes visuals) that changes screen resolution? Plus having activated a screensaver? There was an article in the knowledge base recently, covering something like that, where it said the field to enter your password is actually there but you won't see it. Don't remember exactly what you had to do though, hitting escape or something...
Yeah, I know, I know. You were expecting a 20th Anniversary Mac, but this will have to do. I'm sure Steve had a keynote presentation in Moscone Center solemnly unvealing a 10.3.3 box raising out of the stage floor... OK, I'll stop now.
I used Word 2.0 to type up my Master's thesis, [...] LaTeX is a godsend.
I guess we all feel your pain. But even in Word 2.0 days you didn't have to use Word 2.0. There were a lot of great editors much better suited for your needs then. On Mac, Windows, Atari, you name it.
And somehow I think comparing text editing and musical score editing doesn't work...
On the site I saw thosein this picture. Anyone here has a clue what kind of phone that is and who made it? Those or very similar ones are often seen as decoration in the IKEA catalogue and I always wondered where to get it.
Sun produces Java for a whole bunch of platforms. So does IBM.
Intel have a C compilers on a bunch of platforms. So does GNU (and Sun, and Microsoft).
They have to. All MS wants is to sell more Windows licences, or better: Sell at least as much as in the past few years.
You can be pretty sure that MS will change any.net specifications if it feels like it. Or better, they could find some patents in their basement. What interest should they exactly have in.net compatibility on Linux? Linux playing catch up with Windows is stoopid.
Come on! Are we now suddenly supposed to actually read those frickin' articles? Just tell me who won. This is the internet and my attention span... wait, what's that shiny thing?...
Assuming we want more Flash on Linux (Linus forbid):
Shouldn't they start with making Flash accessible on ALL Linux platforms? I know people running some PPC or IA64 distributions. No Flash for them. I remember that kinds of problems with other stuff too when working with PPC Linux a while ago: "No problem, just run it under wine." - "But wine doesn't run on my machine...".
With all the dependance on wine and all those Linux GUI designers (ahem) trying hard to make their stuff look as close as Windows as possible... Is this a good direction to take?
Sorry for the rant, probably shouldn't post it... but it bugs me for a long time now.
In a report about the Wolfram and Hart Revue a girl writes how she met Ron Glass: "I asked him about the movie (slated for 2005! Squee!), and he said he could not "officially" say that he was going to be in it. And then he smiled."
Whedon's shows are excellent... and also extremely expensive.
I always hear that, but noone ever gives any numbers? Did you pull that "fact" out of your ass, or can you give me any prove for that claim? I'm pretty sure any StarTrek show is far more expensive. Still the FX look worse. The planet sceneries sometimes look like in the classic series.
Never wondered why he drinks so huge amounts of bottled water on stage? And now that I think of it I can't remember to have ever seen his shadow. Would be telling with the tentacles and all...
Well, as I have an iMac I'll be on the right side when his people come to take control of Earth.
The first movie started at episode 4 for the purpose of creating the illusion of a saturday matinee cliff-hanger.
Uhhhh, no. Back in '77 (or '78 here in Germany) it wasn't mentioned that "Star Wars" should be an episdoe IV nor was it named "A New Hope". That was later. And I (like most people I know) always thought "Empire Strikes Back" was the best. It surely was a better movie.
And here I always sat thinking that /. was meant to look shitty.
Nope, this year some people say they would like a model celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Macintosh, not Apple Inc.

'I, Robot' was the first *adult* (ie, no pictures in it) book I ever read as a kid
Most *adult* books usually have plenty of pictures ...

But better port the Mac version. I always wondered how one can work with the Windows ports of Adobes apps. Alone the one window approach ... shudder ...

If you had RTFA (God forbid!) you would know that the movie will take place 6 months after the series finished.
Welcome to the wonderful world of hollywoodesque pidgin english. Although, maybe it's only Variety and everyone in Hollywood speaks totally normal ...?
Get his original script here.

Because there are no "Clueless" or "Shat up, dumbass" moderations.
Yet.
Yeah, they look like video cassettes, only made of paper.
When? Any sources (links) for that?
I'm pretty sure that Claris/AppleWorks was a part of the 1997 deal and that Apple just isn't "allowed" (yet) to put much work in the app.
I thought people like you were banned from /. long time ago.
I've seen it in the 1978 StarWars TV Christmas Special. BTW: You should watch that if you think the prequels suck ...

Assuming you are talkin about an iBook: All have backlights. Otherwise the TFT would be pretty dark.
